I'm not too worried about the bottom pair. Sandin should slot in on the left. I don't know if they will have Dermott on the right or what, but I don't think the bottom pair will be that much of an issue (it certainly won't be a strength)

The real concern will be the weakness in the top 4 if there are injuries I think. Would have loved it if the Leafs had picked up Savard for more depth, but we are where we are.

Can't make those kind of prudent hockey moves, unfortunately.

I saw them play in Cincinnati in 1978.

They ended up spraying the crowd with the fire extinguishers. Great show.

Great day, really.

We warmed up with drinks at a bar called Snookies, in the bottom of the Flimm Building.

How do you say the Leafs won't win the Cup without saying they won't win the Cup?

How do you say Dubas is poop at his job without saying Dubas is poop at his job?

Better?

- underhill14

I get that. I'm not happy with the lack of success either.

But you don't have to be a perpetual wet blanket about it.

Yes we could have?

They chose not to go for defense this off season. But it's not like Savard signed for big $$$ and he was out of reach.

They chose to replace Hyman with Ritchie, and pick up a back up goalie. Management decided that picking up a veteran d-man is something that could wait until the TDL. I agree with it.

I would have preferred we move out Kerfoot and add someone like Savard.

But it isn't the end of the world.

Still like to see them bring in a guy like Jordie Benn on the cheap, but winsix makes a good point about them deciding to wait until the TDL for that aspect. Could very well be the case. đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™‚ïž

Rielly left scrimmage yesterday with a boo boo and didn’t return today. Holl had to be helped to the locker room today. (Since Muzzin carried him all last year, shouldn’t be a problem, am I right Jonsey?)

Give Bad News Bears, the original, a try with your kids.

Dad of the Year right there stuff right there. How do I know? I did once, had to turn if off after 10 minutes.

Is Jordie Benn any better than Dermott or Biega? I'm hoping the Leafs will make a move that will be substantially better than what we currently have playing third pair mins.

Here's hoping Sandin is the real deal and that Liljegren gets a long look and somehow becomes semi-competent.

Kerfoot was the second highest scorer in the playoff series last season. Don't mind him on the team at all. Adds versatility and he's a worker. Easier to pick up a depth D-man than a decent 3rd line center at the TDL IMO

Really unsure about Biega, I haven't watched him play much but I haven't really heard/read anything that would convince me otherwise. I feel like he's a lock for the AHL but again, haven't watched him play much so I might be wrong.

Benns a veteran steadying calming presence who may beat the piss out of anyone who (frank)s with the young blueliners, and I feel like that is massive with them.

Aside from the odd flash, Dermott and Sandin especially looked like they had zero confidence when they weren't on the ice with Bogo, and their games seemed to absolutely crumble in kind. They both seem to need assurance, Dermott should be there but he's not. It is what it is. đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™‚ïž

Proven young local talent vs unproven young foreign talent

- mr.sir

Please enlighten me on how you came to those conclusions.

In terms of experience, neither is proven at the NHL level, and as for "pro" experience, it's a wash in Liljegren's favour.

I disagree with respect to Jordie Benn. He's a journeyman whose best days - as less-than-mediocre as they were - are decidedly behind him. He doesn't really hit much and isn't an intimidating force -- or, maybe I just haven't seen enough of him beating the piss out of opponents.

Biega isn't particularly good (or mediocre, even), but I feel like he's our Jordie Benn. A slightly smaller but feistier version.

Suffice it to say, neither Benn nor Biega should be considered anything more than an emergency option.

Dermott, for all of his mediocreness, is almost certainly better than both. And that pains me to say it.

But yes, I would like to see a Bogo replacement who is actually a legit bottom pairing guy who can dish out some pain. Then again, I'd also like to see Liljegren given ample opportunity to see if he can actually play.

Which is to say: more truculence in the Bottom 6 would be where I would spend my $$$ and hope that the Top 4 d-men can carry the load.

I think 3.5M would be better spent on a legit 3C or Top 6 winger. I feel like Kerf isn't quite either of those things.

My guess would be between 15-18ish if he stays healthy.

I think they will try him LW in Top6 though.

Ritchie–Matthews–Marner
Kerfoot –Tavares–Nylander
Mikheyev–Kampf–Kase
Bunting–Spezza–Simmonds

Rielly–Brodie
Muzzin–Holl
Sandin–Dermott

Yes. He'll probably hit 30.

And that's okay.
