Hains: Pay Attention
Today is world suicide awareness day, a day on which we should all take a moment to think about how we can make it easier for loved ones to talk to us when or before they reach their breaking point. |

Unfortunately, over the last 18 months, I have felt the need to check in on some close friends of mine that tend to get isolated in normal situation, but more so since Covid became a thing.
For some people it has been quite the struggle.
Remember, you never know how someone is doing until you ask.
And if you do care about them, then you do ask.

I'm so grateful for my friends. Living alone, I was struggling a lot during the lockdowns. They all called and made sure I was OK, their kids were calling on video as well. I don't know how I would have pulled through without it. I felt really lucky to have that. |

My sister walked to school with a neighbor from Grade1-12. In middle school, the girl’s father committed suicide. The girl was never the same. My sister spent a lot of time comforting her, including her in activities, and just being there for her. A year later, the girl’s mother took her own life.
They both finished high school and my sister went away for school. About 10 years after high school, the girl took her own life. People need people. Reach out.

One thing I noticed living in the Dominican Republic the past six years is nobody is depressed. No suicides, no lone wolf mass shooters. People aren't isolated and are constantly interacting with each other. Large families living in tiny houses. Those tiny houses crammed together in small communities. Everyone knows all their neighbors and every single detail of their lives, the good and the bad. No playstations, the parks are jammed packed every afternoon with kids playing and parents shooting the poop. |

Drouin may just want to keep his issue in house. He may decide it’s not for public consumption. It’s his call.

It's well within his right to do so, but it'd be kinda bizarre to agree to an interview to say (frank) off, none of your business. |

Agreed. But the whole thing has been kind of bizarre. He may give some explanation lacking details but I don’t expect full disclosure. I could be wrong.
