It is unlikely Harris will sign with the Habs for three reasons.
1. UFA Status - He will become a UFA at the end of the season.
2. American Nationalism v. Canadian Taxation - American born players generally consider the tax rate in Quebec to be exorbitant. Few of these players willing choose to play in Montreal.
3. ELC Length - Most importantly, his agent has informed the Habs that Harris will not sign his first contract before his 22nd birthday next summer. Waiting to sign his ELC until he is 22 will reduce the contract term from 3 years to 2. Unfortunately for the Habs, his birthday is a few days after he becomes a UFA.
These are important factors all players know, but the local and national media refuse to mention.
