The fact is that Drury's hands are tied financially, except for making minor natured moves. Drury's lack of "significant in nature" free agent signings, (except if Nemith fits those 3 words in quotes for you); and his lack of the significant ones in trades, (outside of his loss received for Buch as if it were a salary dump of his new expected deal); are all due to him looking ahead in fear to the greater cap hell they would encompass next Summer, starting with Norris Trophy winner, Adam Fox alone likely receiving an 8 year deal at $9M to $10M per year. - RangerSaver

See my 2:53 pm reply to Ryan ("rentz"); and my earlier reply to Jimbro's mention of a source questioning why the Kings would have even needed to sign Danault.
A center is the one piece I felt they needed most. Dvorak would have been adequate, with I wanting no part of Eichel's $10M AAV alone, given the cap trouble they face next Summer through re-signings and more. Drury likely attempted to make a trade to acquire one, but has been unable to as of yet; especially since he made Strome available in being a 1 year away potential UFA, who could command $6M annually. But Drury can't trade him until first assured he has acquired a replacement for him. - RangerSaver
Dude if you didn't spend paragraphs referencing your old posts they might be short enough that we would actually read them and not need your recaps |

Hey, at least that one WAS a paragraph and not just a tremendously long run on sentence. |

Par for the course. I expect us to pass on Hamilton over $500k a season and instead bring back Kulikov and Vatanen. |

I initially would get baited into reading them thinking hes got some inside info. I just skip over it now. |

Honestly, what were we expecting from free agency? There really weren't any centers available that fit our needs, so Drury did what he had to do fill out our bottom 6 and defense.
Usually we female dog about giving out ridiculous contracts when free agency starts (except for Panarin - then only Brukie female doges lol). We have most of the tools for a REALLY good team already - and it was built on our draft picks.
It it's a trade for Eichel (or some other center), I expect it to be a while after the dust settles and teams see what they have and further re-evaluate their roster. |

It's possible that Drury is playing this perfectly. It's not likely but it's possible. Vegas has now spent a bunch of money, LA got their center, Anaheim gave Getzlaf $4.5M for some reason. The market for Eichel is thinning and Drury could arguably get him for a bargain right now compared to what was being asked for 24 hours ago.

That means nothing coming from someone who says signing the leagues 7th leading scorer over the last 5 years was a mistake. |

Remember Tom Burton literally quitting this forum because the rangers traded for Fox? |

After this seasons $49M+ combined salaries of their 6 highest paid players, that would make it nearly $51.8M effective in 2022/23; including Point's $2.75M increase per year being slightly over a 40% increase vs. this coming season's $6.75M final year of his current term deal. |

Totally agree with you. Who is going to be able to send back a decent package and be able to afford Eichel? Not many teams. I think several teams have basically taken themselves out of the conversation. |
