Arguing and debating about hockey is perfectly appropriate. Getting personal and making personal comments to someone is not. The other day you called me sick because I had an opinion on the Jones situation that you disagreed with. Is that not toxic?

For the record, I said absolutely nothing remotely similar of the sort. His sense of ethics, complete with frequent changing of posts, is largely at par with his memory.

I take a personal interest in the lives of posters behind the avatars, and I have a good memory. I know Landros2 has 3 daughters and a son. I know DKos is 58/59 and has at least 2 kids: 1 son and 1 daughter. I know arichardson22 was in college about 13-14 years ago. I know Djapana was in the merchant navy and relocated to Florida. I know Hextal271 is in the navy. I know Kingkenzo grew up near Kensington. I know that Mickel25 was playing competitive hockey during our 2008 series with the Caps or thereabout. I know SchennBros has a good pal in Altwebang. I know Dr. Midnite plays Chess online and that ANgus4444's dad was a cop who cut out a part of Bernie Parent's net as a keepsake, and that Stepford Sam's father would claim he invented the question mark and that 2Real's wife makes him eggs steeped in tea. And so on and on and on.

I tend to remember things. As such, there is nothing specifically odd in my detailed remembrance of what I am to say about MJL below.

MJL last year, when Covid hit, had mentioned the age of his parents, and that his father had undergone radiation for a cancer bout (and his mother had some issues too) and their vulnerability. Also last year, I mentioned that MJL deserves commending for looking after his parents in times such as this. A poster whose name I forget emerged and said while he did not agree with me politically did agree with me wholeheartedly about that part (lloking after parents).

Then MJL mentioned this year that his dad was in a nursing home, with advanced dementia. MJL would go and park his car in a parking lot to be near him, though Covid protocols prevented closer visits. Subsequently, he was brought home for end of life care.

MJL was gone for a week or so around the beginning of March. It was not hard to extrapolate what happened. I expressed concern then, expressed sympathy when he returned, and commiserated with him on Father's day. Here is the post at 8:58 AM:
https://www.hockeybuzz.co...p?thread_id=173146&page=9

I also mentioned that I have noticed, in 14 years of reading him, that his ability to reason has slowed significantly, and that he forgets things to alarming extents (and he has said so himself last year about forgetting) and with his family history of dementia in the family, I suggested publicly that he should undergo a psychiatric check-up for his own sake.

I took great pains to point out this was said as a well wisher, and that I would have sent a PM if I knew it would be well received, and that it was not an insult but a medical suggestion, and it was bothering me so I felt compelled to say it. We often, for fear of intruding and fear of causing offense, don't say what might benefit the other person to hear. I stand by the suggestion.

I feel this poster is virtually impossible to debate with because he forgets, cannot follow and cannot admit he is wrong ever. On top of that, he has an almost pathological fixation in responding to me. I have a pretty thick skin but large sprawling debates which go nowhere serve nobody on a public forum. As such, I informed him I was a well wisher, and there are no hard feelings, but I would not read or respond to his posts. I have been true to my word and intend to continue. Today's posts were good-natured ribbing. I tease several people, such as you, as well.

None of this comes even remotely in the ballpark of using a person's misfortune against him in any way. I would never do that and I never have.

I hope this sets the record straight.

Yikes, Sherlock! What a memory! I can’t imagine why you would clutter your mind palace with this stuff. Got to admit it makes me a little uncomfortable. I’m not going to glance out my kitchen window one morning and see you staring back at me, am I?

2 things here so we’re accurate. Then let’s see.

1) finished last season 15th in selke voting clearly not in prime or toward downward slope of prime

2) he was on pace for 27-28 goals and 34-37 assists thats 61-65 points not anywhere near 80 points

So it’s not 3/4 years it’s more like those we’re career years and the best to hope for is good defensive play somewhere around 25 goals and somewhere around 35 assists.

Sorry but not sorry that’s not some great 1c that’s middle of the pack. Remember how coots didn’t make nhl networks top 20 center list? Yeah there was a reason
for it.

Also have you notice there’s a history building with coots injury history?
Do we even dare throw in how his body is clearly starting to show the wear and tear ?

- Stayin alive

This post is a yikes on SO many levels.

Coots is 28 years old. Do you not understand what in his prime even means LOL.

He was averaging 0.4 goals per game last season. .4 goals per game in an 82 game season is 33 goals.

Yikes man you can't even math. Your intelligence is so low I actually feel bad for you. Oh Coots isnt on a NHL top 20 list that is notorious for being anti Flyers. Damn guess we should trade him for somebody that has accomplished nothing, a prospect, and a laaaaate 1st round prospect. LMAO

Ha ha, you might be reading into my comment a bit. I don’t feel any animosity towards PT or anyone here. I get a little tired of the bickering between him and MJL, but for the most part I’m entertained by his posts.

So would they have been better off not making those deals? And if so is your reason simply cause the got beat by a superior team ? They beat 3 really good teams….teams better then the Flyers to get to TBay. The Habs for all their faults have made moves, substantial core moves for the better. The guys they traded didn’t suck…they just didn’t fit.

Yikes coots is 29 this year last year of current contract.

30 when new contract handed out.

Already has 10 years on body that’s why injuries keeping out of games. He’s no longer an 82 game a year player. Hell he only played 45/56 last year

So again expecting 30-35 goals is unrealistic. Expect him in full season to play 65-70 games about 25 goals 35 assist. Good defensively. Would be great 2c but he’s not gonna take that $ he’s gonna try to get his career payday

You can try to project to full season but the facts are there. I didn’t make up he only played 45/56 games. That’s 20% missed games. If you’re gonna project his goals and assist to full 82 games of this past season do you not ALSO have to project his games missed? I mean 10 hard years on that body. What’s more likely ? He scores at your projected numbers( best case scenario as his career high is 76 points 3/4 years ago) or he misses games and doesn’t play a full 82 season with the wear and tear on his body already?

See how real math works. Project the whole thing out can’t just project stats to fit your narrative then say yikes and your awful trade proposals.

And if you project his points out AND his projected missed games what contract you willing to give a 30 year old Fa at contract time?

Or you can trade him now while still some value. Or let him play out year for what? Maybe a playoff berth? Seems like absolute asinine asset management to me

I’ll also add I can speed rate anything and project an outcome usually within 10%

I know you’re probably not familiar with any of this as most people aren’t but if care too research it as it’s very interesting if you’re into observation and projecting and can be applied literally to anything down to thousandth/second tho I usually only go to the hundredth

If there was no expansion and hence no expansion draft, Guerin would not have bought them out at this point in time.

The reasons are clear though indirect: Wants to reset trajectory. Having two old superstars around while you are going youth muddles the message.

Plus, Suter is still a good player. And Parise was on 60 point odd pace season before last. Removing them will hurt the team in the short run. So will the cap hit.

Then there is the revamping of Scouting. Guerin cannot be unaware that these handicaps improve position in draft.

There is a code in sports management of never publicly admitting you are looking to the future. Just like Doug Pederson will always say he never yanked Hurts except for giving Sudfeld a chance, laughable though it might sound.

Guerin is revamping. Dumba is only tangentially related to it.

- PT21

Suter is still a good player so that buyout is very odd. Very odd. Must be more to it behind the scenes.

What the hell happened to this board? It is toxic in here. We are talking about a sports team. My life continues as normal whether they win the Cup or finish in dead last. It’s supposed to be fun.

Some spend the entire day arguing in here. It might be good to spend some time away.

I agree, constant arguing the last few months is bananas. Either people trying to correct your opinion on something, or the same trade so and so, this team sucks rhetoric. It takes the fun out of reading about hockey.. I wonder whats changed so much the last couple months...covid? new posters? Just disappointed with the season?

I am certainly harsh, or even dismissive, of what I consider lazy or factually refutable opinions. Example: Such as the one you express above (and I hasten to say, given how sensitive some of you are, I mean this in a gentle way -more on this below).

I can see why this facet of mine would be irritating. But at the end of the day, the world, and the Internet, is full of irritating people. It seems to me that the best option is to listen to and think about what the other poster is saying, and see if he has a point, and just ignore anything else stemming from manner if it is unpleasant.

Ignoring is pretty easy to do, at least for me. I ignore one poster here completely and easily. I do so because I had tried debating last year and realized it had absolutely no redeeming value at any level, including for the board experience. I do admit my comments yesterday about the Internet voices of some people, which I really thought was all in good humor, was probably ill-advised because of some temperaments here. I regret that.

Coming back to your arguing "last few months" claim here, your join date is 12 years ago and you find only the last few months toxic? Really? Multiple people have had far more bitter arguments here than what happened yesterday. Multiple people have left the board because of arguments with specific posters over the years. Butsy left 7-8 years ago. Exlund left a few years back. JMatchett left last year. MJL was involved in many of them (Read the comments on the blog here if you want to refresh your memory about acrimony: https://my.hockeybuzz.com...ser_id=35215&post_id=2553) but only 1 of the posters above left because of him. There are long running feuds even now, such as between Claudefather and SchennBros.

Some amount of snippiness and even nastiness is part and parcel of a board like this. It is quite another however if a poster utterly and completely manufactures a claim that someone actually used the death of a parent to insult the poster. And a towering intellect actually takes that at face value and quotes it (which is how I first became aware of it).

I was shocked. It needed to be refuted thoroughly. Hopefully I won't have to do this again. I am moving on.

Laughable on so many fronts. Finished 15th in selke voting elite. Missed 20% of games. Scored 30+ goals in a season 20% of years in league. Thinks 28 even tho will be 30 during year of new big career contract. Thinks 22 year former 4th overall pick of draft is just lower end even tho picked higher in draft than coots and is 6 years younger currently and scored just as many goals while not playing as many minutes or big game minutes as coots and only getting better and starting to crack his potential. All the while thinking 10 hard seasons on coots will somehow be miracle and buck the trends of Father Time
