Since we are grading on goals, Skinner hit 40, want to trade for him? pretty sure buffalo would cut a deal
- bradster

And a $9 million cap hit up to the age of 35.

That's why teams should be leery of players who have a career year in a contract year.

If they ate 2-3M of his salary, I think he'd actually be a pretty good add

Rather have him at 6 more years than Hayes for 5 more

Not me. At least Hayes is a center and if he's not scoring well he can still be used in a checking role and on the PK. He'll be an over priced role player. If Skinner is not scoring, then he doesn't offer much.

Don't get the feeling that Hayes will age very well.

I'd like to have a sniper but that is not tops on my list. I just don't trust him to be a sniper year in and year out. That contract is a doozy.

I have never stated that any pre draft data of Patrick's migraine issue exists. Not once. I laugh every time you bring this up.

Unless it coots then paying until he’s 37 8+ mil is acceptable by some hb posters. Laughable actually

Your correct. It’s takes a bit to be able to judge a teams draft….we now can see some of the misses or hits for Hextall. I keep watching Caufield look like a legit young sniper and wonder if the Flyers missed on him ….but I still think York could turn out to be a really good d man as well…time will tell. (For Fletchers draft)
- landros 2

I am not going to beat up Fletcher on that one, the Flyers needed a defenseman so hopefully York works out. If York turns out to be a legit top 4 Dman, it was the right pick. One thing that so many GMs have missed is they are biased against smaller forwards like DeBrincat, Point, and Caufield. The game has changed and size, though important in the playoffs, does not have to prevalent up and down your lineup. There is room for forwards like Caufield and Nick Suzuki. Point in fact is having a monster playoffs right now.

To be accurate:
It was the European scouts and they were pushing for miro not makar. While some may have wanted makar the miro scouts were screaming the loudest. Hexy couldn’t get everyone on board and went with the consensus nopa instead of swinging for a home run. Hexy while maybe can’t be blamed I mean come on if ever you’re given a free pass to take that swing it was then. Even if you strike out you have every excuse. Moving from 13-2 you have to take that shot. I can see if you sucked and were picking 2 to begin with but it was just a big fat meatball lobbed up there and hexy to strike 3 looking

I am probably not being fair to Hextall, I admit it. Its just that I got to see Cale Makar playing quite a bit since he played for UMass, and you could see this guy was going to be a stud, while Patrick's stock was falling. We can debate how much it was falling but clearly even in Hextall's camp there was no consensus on who to pick at 2 which should tell you something since 6 months prior this was called the "Nolan Patrick draft". Oh well, nothing we can do now except once again watch Colorado challenge for a cup while the Flyers wallow in mediocrity. Bad decisions on draft day can really hurt a franchise. Look at the Bruins in the 2015 draft as an example; how many cups would they have won if they had just drafted who they were supposed to (Barzal, Connor, etc.). The lesson for all GMs should be, when you have a chance to get a stud defenseman at the top of the draft, never pass it up for a forward unless its McDavid.

3 of the top 4 heaviest teams are still in the playoffs. Size matter lol......not saying you cant have a small player but we have G and TK already. I agree with you, York should have been the pick. People just like to complain..... I didnt want Caufied. Its a big risk, most smaller guys are not impact players...There are some exception.

If you want to call going from #1 to #2 falling. It's not accurate to say that Patrick's stock was falling. The only thing that tells you is that different scouts preferred different players. So while there was no consensus for Patrick. There was also no consensus for Makar or Heiskanen. Most teams draft in the first round BPA. So if you think the forward is the better player over a defenseman, then you take the forward. That's not a legitimate "lesson".

Yes, Happy Fathers day to all fathers. On a personal note, thinking about all those that unfortunately don't have their Father with them anymore. That makes this a tough day. I know how they feel having lost my Father in February. I miss you Pop.

I know exactly how you feel. I too lost my dad in Feb, 2016. Not a day goes by still without missing him intensely.

My sympathies.

No, you maroon, they were able to draft those players because they had A GOOD SCOUTING DEPARTMENT!!!
- KGBflyers10

May want to check on your spelling of moron before you try to insult someone.

In regards to Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Point, Kucherov etc., do you actually believe that the respective scouting departments thought that these guys would be first line centres, all-stars or Hart Trophy winners and said to themselves 'let's wait until the 5th round to draft them?'

Yes they thought they could have been players in the league and that's why they drafted them, but to say they are geniuses because these players developed into superstars but the scouts held their cards until late in the draft is a bit of a stretch.

Yes by all means with all things equal you take the forward over the defenseman. Said absolutely nobody ever. D is always the more important position all things equal. You build from the net out.
