Nick Suzuki? - JetFuel
Fair enough, let me reframe that question.
Which valuable roster player did we give up to Vegas. We traded that first rounder to essentially protect Tobias Enstrom. |

Traded Vegas a 3rd round pick as well, didn't lose anyone of value, lost a guy they should've gotten rid of years before. |

Paul Maurice won’t play those guys against Ottawa and Vancouver in meaningless regular season games and you think he’s going to play them in the playoffs?
Paul loves his veterans and no way do Heinola and especially Samberg play this year at all. - TheUltimateJet
Well, two injuries on D and you are looking at either Heinola or Samberg going in. Anything can happen as the intensity ramps up, blocking shots and who ever plays the Jets will be banging the heck out of the D and pressuring them. |

Unproven, unproven, unproven, I’d take him over Ves but it’s close, and Norris rules fair play |

Heinola should be with Morrissey 20 games ago. |

Which valuable player did we lose in the Vegas draft?
That was sort of my point, three years ago we were not a deep enough team to lose a valuable player. Now we are. |

The Jets don’t have anything at risk of exposure worth spending a 1st rounder on. Stanley will maybe cost us a 3rd at most to keep on. They’ll either take a shot at an expiring UFA from us, or end up with Perrault. Seattle is analytics heavy, so Matty P is the obvious steal. - Rexypoo
you are right that we should not add anything to seattle, let them take whoever they want. but this message on twitter about them being analytics heavy is being blown way out of proportion and like the Leafs adding Thornton, Simmonds, Bogo and other past their prime now analytic dead weights, Seattle will add a few as well. |

over rated at 21? that's funny. i'll bet you whatever you want Suzuki has a better career than Vess |

There is definitely a disconnect between how Chevy envisions the team and how Maurice plays it! |

Does age matter? Stutzle is currently overrated at 18. Means nothing for their potential or skillset, simply means they are viewed as more than they currently are |

Not really. Seattle is spending a frankly sarcastic amount of money on their analytics department, which was established before they hired a GM.
As for the Leafs, they took a gamble on Simmonds and Bogo. Simmonds has been meh, but Bogo has continued his Tampa Bay passable performance.
Thornton has never been bad analytically, so that’s a weird take. |

It does matter! Suzuki would have looked real nice on the third or fourth line as a winger. Because we all know that Maurice would never have given him a shot at second line center. |

It makes a tantalizing story but the article itself is really reaching to read into and add to the narrative that is out there - the journalist is giving the readers what they want.
Sure Chevy would like to know exactly what he has - it makes his job easier. Maurice's job is to win games and part of that comes from knowing what he has and coming up with a plan. Of course Chevy will say he wants his young guys in the lineup and of course Maurice sets the lineup with the most certainty and predictability in it. Eventually the Jets will move on from both guys and we will find and pick at the vulnerabilities in their decisions too. |

it was also reported that it was Chipman who extended and negotiated Maurice's extension. this would normally be done by the GM, our GM had nothing to do with it. what does that tell you? |

It is exactly what we are debating, because Vesalainen is not even in the line-up! |

And, they had 0 former Jets on their roster. We might have actually won, if they had taken Tobias Enstrom. |

Toby didn't lose that series for us, we got beat by a team that was going on all cylinders and we had been through a meat grinder of a series against Nashville while they cruised through California.
The point is that the pre-Vegas Jets team had 8 skaters really worth protecting and Toby was on the edge and Chevy cut a deal to keep him. This time around its Wheeler, Scheifele, Ehlers, Connor, Copp, Morrissey, Pionk, Demelo, Stanley - any of which will be in demand for Seattle - not borderline guys due to age, contract status and play (toby was older, smaller and carried a larger contract).
Seattle will value the player made available more than a first round pick - as said before - they need to put players on the ice. 20+ of the roster players will be players currently on the 30 teams who need to protect players. Maybe the bottom third of depth teams can cut a deal with Seattle, doubtful that is the Jets this time. |
