The Jets are the one team in the North division that scares me as a team more than capable of beating the Leafs.
Great goaltending.
Deep forward group with size and skill.
Thankfully you didn't add David Savard, that was my worst nightmare. |

Although I would like to see the younger guys get more of a chance, I do understand where a guy like Benn helps when it comes to the playoff grind. Games are way tougher there and having some size/grit and experience should help.
I'm happy with this addition and happy we didn't give up any good prospects/picks. |

I think one thing that became quite apparent at this trade deadline is what the value of a 4th round pick can be worth. The answer is somewhere between $1.37 MM ( SJ) and $1.0 MM ( Detroit).
In a Covid riddled season where revenues are way way down and one would expect teams to be quite budget-conscious, I actually find it amazing that teams like SJ and Detroit are willing to pay that much for a 4th round pick.
So my estimates of what a mid-round pick might be worth for each round :
1st - $3.5 - $4MM
2nd - $2.5 MM
3Rd - $1.75 MM
4th - $1.25 MM
5th - $850K
6th - $500K
7th - $250K
Might be some debate on this. |

The guy we traded for, on purpose, to replace Stanley (it will happen) was a guy deemed expendable by a team with 4 actively available players.
Welcome to Winnipeg. |

The only explanation that makes logical sense for not trading a 2021 first round pick is that Chevy wants to hold onto it to trade to Seattle. I can see him pulling a similar deal to that he did with Vegas.
I am confident that the Jets will not pick in the first round this year and at best Seattle will take the player the Jets tell them in exchange for our late first round pick. |

You guys will be happy with Benn, he is a solid 3rd pairing guy. Moves the puck okay and decent enough penalty killer. |

Yes it was a missed opportunity, so many better dmen went for similar or slightly more then Benn did.
Would trading the 1st for Savard have been that big of a loss? I don't think it would've been, could care less about the 3rd and 4th round picks it would've taken.
Wonder if Chevy inquired on R.Murray, really think he could've helped this group.
I know many wanted a big splash trade like Manson but I would've been happy with just a couple upgrades on the backend that could help smooth things out and get a couple of these guys into the press box. |

I'm normally an optimistic person and fan but I am also a realist. As such I just don't see the Jets beating a team like the Lightning (as well as a few other teams like the Avalanche and Bruins). They might get out of the Canadian division but not much further. One main reason is that there is no real home crowd or home-ice advantage which so often helps underdogs even a series and then rely on some good goaltending or some breaks to carry them through. The Jets in particular really feed off the whiteout and the crowd noise. That advantage is gone and I see this as a year the favorites will do well. Of course, I hope I'm totally wrong but I doubt I will be.
I believe starting next year and the subsequent year or two beyond that, are the years that we will see the Jets go very deep or even win it. Just my two cents. |

It's just capspace, not real dollars
Factor in the season is 75% over so the dollars are prorated, and then the escrow on top of that, it's hardly and real actual $$ at all

Not Helle's best game by far.
So how does playoffs factor in for a player like Heinola in terms of exposure in expansion draft? Do the playoff games count? I bet we are going to see Heinola / Samberg sometime come playoffs. Didn't Makar made his NHL debut during playoffs and was awesome?
Morrissey / Demelo
Forbert / Pionk
Stanley / Poolman
Benn / Niku / Heinola / Samberg (No particular ranking order but I bet Niku is likley bottom of the D depth) |

Players on ELC’s cannot be exposed in the expansion draft.
Also, I do feel bad for Stanley as he will be coming out of the line-up. Jordie Benn will be most likely taking his spot.
I feel bad for the big guy

Paul Maurice won’t play those guys against Ottawa and Vancouver in meaningless regular season games and you think he’s going to play them in the playoffs?
Paul loves his veterans and no way do Heinola and especially Samberg play this year at all. |

I agree with everything you said except the Boston part. The Jets are a better team than the Bruins. Colorado and the Lightining are the real contenders after the deadline.
I'm also not buying the TSN hype about the Leafs. They got 1 player that improved their lineup with Foligno and they way overpaid. He's also 5 years past his prime and will play their bottom 6 but can move up with an injury. What they got was depth guys that make sure guys like Petan don't play if they have an injury in the later round. At the end of the day, the Leafs are not much better. Sometimes the best trade is the one you don't make and Chevy tends to do well at draft. The Leafs have 6 picks in the next 2 years and if Dubas missed this year, it may cost him his job. The Jets have never missed on a 1st round pick yet.
I'm glad Chevy didn't sell our future just so he could say he did something. Savard cost Tampa a 1st, 3rd and 4th round pick which would be insane if Chevy tried to outbid that and would of had to go into our prospects to match. Heinola and Samberg are studs this year and the likelihood was that what was available was not as good as what we already had with the Moose. I would of liked a Josh Manson or a Justin Braun to solidify our weaker Right side but nobody got those players so were they really even available? |

The Jets don’t have anything at risk of exposure worth spending a 1st rounder on. Stanley will maybe cost us a 3rd at most to keep on. They’ll either take a shot at an expiring UFA from us, or end up with Perrault. Seattle is analytics heavy, so Matty P is the obvious steal. |

In Toronto it is so difficult to get a grasp how good the Leafs really are. The media here is just a fan club swooning about anyone associated to the organization in their attempt to out perform HNIC personnel efforts. I can't think of a media personality willing to project a counterview. Just identifying a media personality with genuine knowledge of the Western teams is difficult to find. |

Do you really expect that there wouldn’t be a TML bias when you consider that the two biggest media giants in the country own the team and the two sports channels? Not to mention TML is the biggest revenue generating team in the North so it makes some business sense to keep propping them up win or lose.
Re not having anyone knowledgeable able about West based teams...Isn’t that person Ray Ferraro? You may not like him but he’s played in The Show and he’s Vancouver based. seems to have a West based slant on many of his takes. |

I'm not following how Perreault factors in to the expansion draft as he is UFA and can sign wherever he wants. If he signs with Seattle then Seattle still gets another Jet of their choosing.

I am happy the Jets didn't make a trade for some of these overhyped d-men that were available. The Jets just don't play a proper defensive system and one extra d-man won't improve the gong show that they play in their own zone. Getting Benn will mean that Maurice justify sitting Stanley who has been one of their best d-men this season. If the Jets don't protect Stanley at the draft they will be considered one of the worst run organizations in the league. Its time to get rid of sweet talking Maurice as this team hasn't improved since their playoff run of 2018 and its time to move on from him. |

Seattle can't put draft picks on the roster, they need to pick up some players. There may be no way to avoid losing a player who goes on to become a valuable part of their team. The jets have more depth than most, with more players that are a little further along in their development curve - Seattle will not be easily dissuaded from passing on the best available player from the jets. There are other teams that will lose a significant talent so we are not alone.
