And as exciting as it would be, I don’t want to play the Habs in the first round.
- Canada Cup

Really?

I'm not saying the Habs would be favorite or anything, but I think that would be awesome to see either way.

You know, as much as I don't want to see the Leafs in the cup finals.

That would be an extra special moment for everyone.

Because it's a little different when the shooter is the best player in the game.

I'd rather force Nurse to make a good play.

And by the way, that's the same thing I'd instruct six year olds - because the odds of them making a good pass followed by a good shot are considerably lower than a kid getting off a good shot.

- Atomic Wedgie

I don't care if the shooter is Jesus himself, a goaltender is always going to have better odds of stopping a shot when he is set and able to focus on the shooter than having to make a save in transition. 10 times out of 10.

It is the defensemans job to always take the pass away, every single time. Because as soon as the goalie has to face a one timer while in movement his day just got a lot harder.

if you are going to suck, i guess you might as well just be the worst by a million miles.
going to get a top 2 pick I guess.

word I have read is this draft is not a great one...which would suck if you tank again...and get a RNH instead of an Auston Matthews

Disagree

Rather make them thread the needle and make a good shot than give them a breakaway attempt

I mean “Buzzard Alert”

Ideally, the Brodie slide

I'll actually disagree on both counts here.

Are you teaching 6 year olds fundamental hockey skills or are you teaching them to win the game based on the skill levels of six year olds? Fundamental hockey tells you to take away the pass. Teaching kids the wrong skills at 6 probably leads them to play 2 on 1s the way Rielly did last night. Thanks, Coach Wedgie.

I don't care if it's Hutch or a bouncy rubber goalie from Canadian Tire in net, the odds of stopping the short angle shot on McDavid are significantly higher than the odds of NHL level players failing to complete a one-timer from an elite passer and gifted shooter.

That's a play that Nurse makes more than 90% of the time if you don't take away the pass. that's a short-side shot that McDavid will score 40% of the time in the top shelf if you're down too early.

Blue Jackets are the only team i see right now who might trade with the leafs. Even then they need a bigger losing streak and it won't be until the deadline before they make their decision. They are still in the race.

I'm teaching them skills and techniques appropriate to their age level, which is what Hockey Canada wants us coaches to do.

I'm not sure how often I've been right since I was married. I'd be afraid to give an answer.

That said, a better goalie probably has a better chance at it - I watched the replay and it's not a one-timer, it's a nice pass by McDavid that Nurse buries - in a good spot, just over the pad.

I'll also concede that in watching where it's happening on the ice - if Rielly sprawls out to block the pass like Brodie does, he's possibly too high in the zone, which could lead to a 2 on 0 down low after McDavid steps around Rielly's splayed out corpse.

I still want him to play the pass and force McDavid to shoot.

Seems to me that cross-checking is something they should learn from early on. In retrospect I might've made it to the big league if I was better at it...

We really don't know if it sucks. It's hard to gage as we only really know what the Europeans and US College kids are doing and the US system is only playing small amounts of opponents at a time. There are guys who are putting up dangerous numbers in Europe.

Personally, as a defenseman for years, i would force a pass to Nurse and make him score. Take the puck out of McDavid's hands. But, that's just me.

That's a tough one when teaching six year olds.

Every kid wants to be able to crosscheck, but you have to explain to them that only the better players get to do it without going to the penalty box.

Little Johnny or Suzy is going to start bawling when you explain to them that if they really want to be able to crosscheck other kids, they need to work on their skating and grow six inches.
