I'm guessing the 2LHD will be Forbort, not sure how I'd feel about a Forbort-Niku pair but it might be okay. I'm sure it'd get roasted on the comment boards though.. 😂
Personally I thought Pionk was solid and I could care less about his point totals, he was very good at both ends of the rink but yeah I get your point about not wanting to overpay for his production on the powerplay which he wasn't great being the QB of.
Gotta wonder what Pionk's next contract will look like and what he might return in a trade. - JetFuel
Forbort-Niku would be an acceptable 3rd pairing. Neither player is top 4 quality, and only one has the potential to improve.
I trade Pionk for sure, but unfortunately we are a better team with him right now. We can’t afford to go in completely devoid of proven talent, especially if Morrissey can’t recover from last season. That would leave DeMelo as the only real top 4 defenceman on the team if the rookies aren’t given a shot |

I think there's zero chance they protect Niku in the expansion draft.
I do see a trade of some sort worked out with Seattle which Niku may or may not be involved in. - JetFuel
you are assuming Niku interests Seattle, they may have no interest once so ever. |

Travis Konecny is the best player on the Jets if you trade Laine for him tomorrow.
So Konecny+ has my full attention. - Rexypoo
You sure he is better then Copp or Dano? Kidding of course. Konecny is a solid player but surely Laine can fetch something a little bigger then just Konecny? Add a 1st, or straight up 1 for 1 with Proverov. |

Read my comment again Ross, I didn't assume that at all. |

Actually Ross, from my perspective after submitting my protected player list, he's probably the best player available on the Jets. The Jets don't have too much else that Seattle would cover, besides maybe Berdin.
On the forward side it's a toss up between Roslovic (if he's still here) and Harkins. |

I could see all of Harkins, Appleton and Berdin being taken ahead of Niku, just my opinion though.
look forward to your article !! |

Hypothetical. In fantasy land, what if a team had only entry level contracts, or contracts with NMC's. What then? |

Believe there is a rule a team has to expose so many players off their roster that are players that have played X number of games at the NHL level (or at least professional games) - that are not players with NMC or are ELC players.

Sincerely and respectfully ultimate - I appreciate efforts like the one you are taking on and look forward to seeing what you have.
As for everyone enjoying it just beware that as in any endeavor such as opinion columns, creative projects, subjective performances, politics, etc. - it is not realistic to expect that everyone will enjoy it. Some people will blow sunshine up your ass, some will rip for the sake of ripping, some will placate and avoid conflict.
This is advice that was given to me concerning subjective public work:
1. Do work you believe in the best you can
2. Choose 3 people whose opinion you value for speaking the truth and listen to them.
3. Everyone else you say things like 'thanks for the encouragement' or 'thanks for your input'. At the end of the day the crowd offers little more than white noise |

Right now if you're the Seattle GM, the Expansion Draft re Jets probably boils down to:
F - Dano, Harkins, Appleton and McKenzie
D - Stanley, Kovacevic (spelling?), Niku, Beaulieu and Green
G - Berdin, Comrie
Breaking it down further, probably Harkins, Niku or Berdin depending which position you want to fill.
As a Seattle GM - I take Harkins.
But a lot will change before the draft. Top draft eligible players will no doubt be dealt for picks.

If the GM had to make the pick right now it would likely be Harkins or Niku. Appleton would be a good choice as well. I would say the outside possibility would be Beaulieu if Seattle was dealt with a shortage of more experienced defense.
The situation might be totally different in 8-10 months based on players' ice time. This begs the question on whether Maurice sandbags a few players next year . Let's face it , the GM isn't going to take Niku if he spends all year mostly in the AHL. The same goes for Harkins. I'd like to think that Maurice would field the best lineup possible, but later in the season, those shell games may start from many NHL teams. |

Harkins or Berdin for me but that’s all good, we are in a very good expansion position and will not lose anything substantial. I know Berdin is very interesting but so to is Holm, so I’m all good with whoever they take. Just NO damm trades to given them anything. |

I’d like to point out that we’re only in a good position for expansion because the team is so bad, nothing of value CAN be exposed |

So same goes for the leafs, oilers and pretty much all the Canadian teams then right? Cause none of them are at risk of losing anything good either |

Why so negative about Winnipeg and completely unrealistic about so
Many other teams? It makes me laugh so hard when Jets get criticized for lack of success while being a draft and develop team and yet a team like the Leafs get called a favourite every year. The Leafs I’ll add are a team who’s had a higher first round pick than us in 6 of the last 9 Drafts and hasn’t won a playoff series in probably 25 years |

Correct.
Only Toronto is in a position to lose a valuable player, because Toronto is the only well managed Canadian team at this time |

Last time the Jets had to prepare for an expansion draft, they had a lot of ineligible young players, and ended up moving picks to hold on to Enstrom.
This time? No worries whatsoever. That 17-18 team for us was god tier, and now we’re almost a lock for missing the playoffs |

Okay, but the Jets aren’t reaaally a draft and develop team in the last 3-4 years, and Toronto hasn’t had an actual GM until very recently |
