Cap squeeze will be even tighter next year. My guess is that all of the high end players will get signed by their home teams very early in the process. Teams don't have much room for movement. Ironically it crushes any leverage that players might have.
The idea that the Jets are shopping Laine is a clear indication that the market has been crushed with multiple other teams and other teams being very reluctant to bail them out.
I don't think you are going to see a lot of trades. I think you are going to see top players getting money on shorter term and teams walking away from other players. |

Regarding Kotkaniemi... 8pts in 36 games played? But somehow the Canadiens got the playoffs on his shoulders? |

It could be charitably argued KK “carried” them against Pittsburgh into the playoffs proper...from a certain point of view. |

Tb will need to add more than just a 1st round pick to offload 5.5 mil for multiple years. 1st or 2nd round pick is like the going rate for a 1 year dump. |

I thought both KK and Suzuki’s efforts in the playoffs should make Habs fans pretty excited for the near future. |

Yep, the youngster committed the unforgiveable sin and will have to spend a lifetime redeeming himself. - HenryHockey
On one hand, he was like 14 at the time. Lots of kid's do some real poopty things at that age.
On the other hand....

I am considerably older than this kid, so I grew up during a time when societal norms were pretty crappy. Yeah, lots of kids did poopty things back then, but even back then, it was only the real bumholes that would pull something like this. Decent kids didn't do this crap.

If you're an athlete in high school with realistic aspirations of going pro, there's a really high chance that you're going to be an bumhole. |

The most concerning part to me is that despite being given repeated opportunities to do so, he didn't apologize to the kid.
Several teams say they were just going to steer clear of him because he didn't seem to show any real remorse for what he did. Didn't present himself very well in interviews. |

Yeah I'm not defending or explaining away what he did at all. It's brutal and disgusting.
But I'd also give the kid a shot at redeeming himself and maturing into a decent adult human before his name gets entirely dragged through the mud |

I agree.
Its not just high school and professional sports though. It could even be the older athlete in a garden variety college program.
No matter how much reason there is to believe that the adulation is transitory and will expire upon graduation, it very often still goes to their heads.

He is as good as any goalie ALREADY in the NHL
That video of Ilya Sorokin has some great saves, he is very flexible and moves quickly but also overcommits on some of the shots and leave the top of the net open... Let's see how he fares with NHL caliber players before saying is as good as any goalie currently in the nhl. |

If this kid misses out on a 6 figure salary (or more?) playing hockey on the biggest stage in the world because he was a racist wiener to another kid, well, there are bigger tragedies in the world, I'd say.

If it turns out the kid doesn't grow up and gets the Leipsic treatment, I won't lose much sleep. Not a great start to your career though - I hear the 'kids will be kids' argument for bullying and teasing and being susceptible to group think - but wiping candy in a urinal and tricking a kid with developmental disabilities to lick it, a kid who you repeatedly call racial slurs, is sociopath-level stuff and a huge red flag. This doesn't happen if you raise your kids properly. |

Lol are you really comparing Pettersson to McDavid??? Pettersson has played on better teams AND scored less points the McDavid did his first two years. Give me a (frank)ing break you idiot. |

Well yeah. I didn't say it'd be any sort of problem if he never made it to the NHL. Just not willing to entirely write someone off as an outright garbage human because he did some really, really poopty stuff when he was 14. |

The article was about $$$ not points and Petey will command close to what McDavid is getting, keeping in mind McDavid's contract is few years old now. Remember Marner is getting that kind $$$ too I would not trade Pete for Marner. I would argue that McDavid has had MUCH stronger line mates ... how many first overall draft choices is Petey playing with??? Oh yeah none.
