Hate to see Murray go as he played a huge role for those back to back cups, but lets face it, Matt needs a change of scenery as he hasn't been the same since his father passed. Would be impressed if JR can get a first for him though.

Why would Anaheim be a usual suspect in a goalie search?

If I recall correctly John Gibson is pretty good.

Toronto should send their new first to Pittsburgh for Murray and trade Andersen to Edmonton for a defenseman..

If Rutherford get's a first for Murray......oh come on. That is not happening. If he can get a second I would be surprised. There are just too many backstoppers out there who are just as, or more qualified. Murray is a $$$ dump and every GM knows this. Possibly a better return as part of a package

Goalies just aren't worth as much as they should be. They are like a running back in football. Such and important player, if you have a good one.

Supply and demand.

Would you rather have Murray than Helly?

I hope you're right. He's been average or below 3 years in a row now. Injured quite a bit too.

If Kapanen can get a first then Murray should easily get one as well from so many teams desperate for a young starting goalie that has won the cup twice.

Sorry, not agreeing with your RB comparison. In football there are a lot of running backs and they have limited shelf life of effectiveness. So they are cheap to sign so you dont see teams invest a lot into backs because they typically just draft a new one every few years rather than constantly give their RBs expensive extensions.

I would think a better comparison would be to QBs. In football, there is a supply and demand issue where there are 30 teams, but roughly only 20-something good QBs, a few teams are stuck with a below average QB. For goalies, most teams can find a good enough goalie, but some teams are stuck with an average or sub-par goalie. Plus a lot of goalies do not have a limited shelf life, they can play into their 30s and are usually worth an extension or two because you cannot easily replace them in the draft and developing them is a crap shoot.

I personally dont think Murray will fetch a first, but it is possible since all it takes is 1 GM. With the cap staying flat and Murray having to lower his expectations for an extension, I would think a team would be interested in paying for a goalie they have control over as a RFA.

I will give Pitts My first (8th overall), but they also have to give me Malkin + Murray, and they will get Mitts, Risto, Any goalie in the Sabres Pipe line, 1st rounder.

You know which team needs a 26 year old goalie with 2 cups that is in a "win now" mode ? Pittsburgh. The fact that they are willing to let him go should tell you something - something like - not worth a first, or a second, and maybe not even a third. He has been too mediocre, too injured, and was pulled in the last game against Montreal. No thanks.

Why would anyone spend a first on a goalie when both Lehner and Mackstrom can be had for nothing more than a new contract? Even lessor options like Khabby in Dal, Crawford, etc, will be available. Even the King can be had for song for any team with cap space.

Granted, Edmonton, Calgary, Carolina, Buffalo, Chicago all need goaltending options/upgrades, but a 1-15 draft pick for a player the pens have to get rid of to create cap space and clear a log jam?

Hello everyone
Adam here. Just wanted to introduce myself.
As for Matt Murray's new contract which should not be any more than 3 years at the current 3.75 he's currently making.
Jarry is great, but can we bank on one good season? Is he ready to be thrown in full time.
Remaining moves for Jim Rutherford?
Possibly a sign and trade with Calgary that sees a 1st come back?
Mark Jankoski and a 2nd seems light.
Thanks for having me and looking forward to many conversations and friendly debates.

Best,

Adam

Murray will get a 1st if JR finds a way to trade him to the Penquins, but it will have to be a 2022 1st!
