This is where you need to stop. Unless you stop watching hockey in March every year, you'd know that heavy hockey is what wins come playoff time. Vegas/Reaves, Caps/Wilson, TB/Maroon. If you think that fighting is going away, then you have a long time to wait for it. When they keep adding teams, there's always spots for tough guys.

I really like Strome, he is my 1st choice to go after, but it all depends on if Chicago even trades him, and he's had 1 decent year, that's a lot of money to give a guy coming of his ELC.

I'm not scared at all giving him 6.5m he is going to be a stud in year 3 a center at 6.5m for 8 years is a huge win for us

Fighting is absolutely gone give me a list ...

( if you're going to say Tk and Brady those are different animals)
Those are skilled guys that are physical and drive the play and are super stars

When Reaves is gone that's it ...

Wilson will be out the league in 2 years

- gerbe75pts

You've been in Cali too long. Absolutely delusional if you think fighting is gone. Wilson will be gone in two years, but has 4 years left on his contract and coming off of consecutive 20+ goal seasons. I don't know where you come up with the crap that spews out on nearly every post you make.

Well that's cool, but you still gotta get Chicago to move him. And I know the Sabres already tried to get him once, and were told No.

Wilson is 1 more Suspension a way to being gone for the whole year the capitals will either neuter him or just drop him

There is one Enforcer left in the nhl and yet you tell me fighting is not gone ...

Ok then

So, reading this it seems that the 'heavy teams' that hit more during the regular season actually hit less during the playoffs. This, also according to the snowflake article, would mean that the 'heavy teams' control the puck more often, and hence why they hit less.

Who's the one enforcer left? It's not the same as even 10 years ago, but it is still present and still a regular occurence.

There were 0.18 fights per game last season, marking the first time that the average has dropped below 0.20.

I didn't read any of that in the article but I may have missed it. There are, on average, more hits per game and even the softest teams are more aggressive in the playoffs.

However, it does appear that the more physical a team is (or more specifically, the greater the disparity between their hits and the team they are "pummelling") the less likely they are to win the game.

Like I said, it's dropped but not going away. The top 10 fighters accumulated 63 fights.

Why didn't you include this part of the article?

"Fisticuffs are a necessary deterrent, if, increasingly, a last resort. “I like some of the fighting and that could be just the way I grew up with it,” he says. “I don’t know if I’d ever want to see it go away.”

Those teams got great goaltending and were top defensive hockey teams those respective years.

I’m sure their size played a small role, but what’s Pittsburgh’s excuse then ? They won 2 cups recently and had very few “tough” guys.

Have you ever even watched the playoffs? This is why you can't base your entire philosophy on analytics. Sure, soft teams win the Cup all of the time.

I don't want a goon, but someone who will answer the bell if need be, but can add something to the team. I am looking forward to Borgen, can add something and not afraid to drop them. And we need are Peca up front.

I mean, yes? I don't base my entire philosophy on it, but Im not going to ignore crucial data that's contrary to popular opinion, just because it doesn't match up with popular opinion.

No one's calling for a goon like Peters or John Scott, but guys that can throw fisticuffs when needed. Someone to step up when teams take liberties on our guys. That's why I like a guy like Brenden Dillon. Not a huge fighter, but watch his fights and almost every one is after a "skilled" guy got a questionable hit on them.
