They said the 24 team playoff format is gaining steam. Guess it would help offset the TV deal so teams wouldn't have pay back penalty.

I still fell the NHL should let teams trade for the draft it's so stupid that's how teams get ready for next season ..

The AHL may be cancelling the remainder of their season on Monday. I would think that the NHL would have to adjust how many guys that teams can call up to have the players ready to step in if needed.

A 24 team tournament makes sense, but an Olympic-style tournament doesn't, even though the start of the 24-team tournament would be Olympic-style rules... All the while, the regular NHL playoffs are a 16-team playoff.

Yeah 24 teams sounds good but round robins are dumb.

Second round best 3 of 5 for the 8 remaining teams in each conference
Conference semi-finals might also need to be best 3 of 5
Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Finals would be best 4 of 7

You allow trades at the prior deadline to be revisited and new trades would be able to be made.

The trade conditions have become ridiculous the past few years anyway.

Finish the season in a condensed schedule (they can do 2 games per day with no audience) at sanctuary cities with facilities to accommodate - And Buffalo would and should 100% be one with the harbor-center - Then have a short break before the playoffs.

Rounds 2 and 3: best of 5

Finals: best of 7

Let non-playoff teams trade to their leisure, which they can do anyway with the current rules IIRC and have the draft the weekend after the Finals end.

Teams would have to travel to different cities to play all the teams left on their regular season schedule.

The 24-team playoff plan would make sure that the round of 24 and round of 16 are both divisional - meaning that 6 teams can be in one city for those games, which is logistically easier.

And I'm not saying this because the Sabres would be in. I really dont give a poop. They dont deserve to be, but whatever, good for them if it works out.

I agree with others about reopening the TDL. 8 more teams are going to be in a tournament they didnt expect to be. Let them make trades

Resuming the regular season also means that vets and pending UFAs on poopty teams would have to come back and play out the string of meaningless games for non playoff teams. Let's say you're jonathan ericsson on the red wings. Are you really gonna come back from sweden to play 12 meaningless games at 36 years old when you've already made 85% of this year's salary? Do vets like Marleau and Thornton have any desire to resume play if they know they're not making the playoffs?

The NHL needs to incentivize a certain group of players to come back. Eliminating the regular season and going with a 24 team playoff format solves that problem
