Fans are stupid especially when it comes to evaluating defenseman. Examples Richard Smelick (sic), Andre Sekera, some Tyler Myers thought was a #1, Risto. I bet if we go back further Schoenfeld's analytics weren't that great but he hit and fought. Bill Hajt probably had awesome numbers but he was thought of as very meh. He was a solid D.

D is the last line of defense and if they are on the ice for goals against it was their fault even though it may have been the winger, center, other D, goalie or a combination's fault. Fans are stupid.

Haven't given him free reign, he's made some head scratcher 's, and he's made a few good trades. Just don't think he was given much help coming in with prospects or assets to use to improve the team, other then using picks. His time is up, he probably gets this off-season to hopefully flip the roster, I hope he gets shown the door if we don't see drastic improvements. Everybody keeps saying well its 3yrs, yeah it is and a lot had to be rebuilt from the bottom up. Unfortunately the bad outweighs the good so far, just don't think it's all him

We all have our moments. But us little folk who are detached from the day to day interactions and operations might want to pay more attention to those closer to the rink as they have more insight. That said, we have opinions and will use everything in our power to back them up. In a way it's good as we are forced to do research to back it up, but there are also times we need to back off and/or cede defeat.

I was just trying to cut to the chase why the players think highly of McCabe and the fans think much less and gave examples of some run out of town, some boosted for no reason, one who they want to run out of town and some in history, one glorified for toughness and blocking shots and one who was not liked because he was thin, was not tough and not very offensive but rock-solid in his own end. I could have said fans aren't that sophisticated but I cut to the chase. If you haven't played D at a rather high level then some of the aspects and nuances of the position are missed but we all shoot off but fans are stupid.

I never played organized football so I'm not going to doubt a veteran Buffalo Bill WR who says so and so is the best cover DB on the team or the best defender but you will hear many fans claim they are wrong but they are free to do so it doesn't make them very smart or smarter than the Buffalo Bill WR or Bills veteran. whatever player.

Players opinions can be skewed by lots of things. Also, weird they said McCabe is the best defensively and not Ristolainen. Thought he was a “beast”

Without looking up numbers, I still think Rhett Warrener may be one of my favorite dmen we've had. If he didn't get Drury I would have been really upset we traded him.
Kris Russell seems to be made from the same mold, and I think he could be had for cheap. With Edmonton looking to trade him, I would offer Montour for Russell and JP. Add a 4th if needed.
