"For weeks, Ryan O’Reilly was one of the top names on the trade market. Several teams were in the running to acquire him, including the Montreal Canadiens. A deal was even close to taking place between the Habs, New York Islanders, and Buffalo Sabres that would’ve ended up with O’Reilly being on the team.

Before that, talks were extensive, but Buffalo asking for the third-overall pick was holding off discussions. It was safe to say that Jason Botterill wasn’t willing to devalue the return for O’Reilly, and he was right to do so. The 27-year-old is one of the better faceoff men in the NHL and is a threat in all situations, especially in the faceoff circle.

Seeing the Sabres at first ask for a Mike Richards-esk return and then increasing the price even further wasn’t a surprise."

"Days ahead of the draft, Montreal’s third-overall pick was a piece Buffalo was interested in. Luckily Marc Bergevin and company didn’t agree to it and chose to draft Jesperi Kotkaniemi at number three instead."

Montreal was going to pay the bonus ..something happened with botts maybe the blues called last min saying they offer more but that deal was done
- gerbe75pts

How would we have drafted Brady then, the trade happened on July 1st, the draft was a week before that.

Just like Arizona offered Domi, 55th and there 1st in 2019 lottery protected in June but they would not pick up the bonus, and Botts was told he had to get the bonus picked up.

"And when they are, the price tends to be very high. If the reported ask of a top prospect, a first rounder and maybe a young roster player is true, it’s a price the Habs can’t afford to pay."

"Bergevin reportedly called the Sabres, but as soon as they told him he’d only get O’Reilly if he gave up prospect Ryan Poehling, Berg immediately said there was no deal to be had."

"As it turns out, much to Buffalo’s chagrin, Habs GM Marc Bergevin never contemplated giving up on the No. 3 overall pick as part of an O’Reilly deal, and seeing Kotkaniemi play now, it appears that he made the right decision."

We can go back and forth about the 3rd ..

It's in the history books with Bobby Ryan, Kopitar , Seguin , Ovechkin, Forsberg and Jarome Iginla

Yes, indeed ROR was his first jersey bought (I did get him an autographed Team USA Ramsey for his 50th though).
He was a little upset when they won the season ticket holder deal and my aunt picked a Reinhart jersey.

- adambuffalo

I knew she was a fan lol, I hadn't heard the full story 🙉

A Ramsey jersey is supercool.

Can't trade him or cut him. That's an all time Jersey.
Pretty much our best player of the early to mid 80's

I remember Ramsey blocking shots with his mouth

Samuelsson, Davidsson, Johnson, and Laaksonen all had less than stellar seasons.

Guys I would target
Alex Tuch, trade
Josh Anderson, trade
Dylan Strome, trade
Kevin Shattenkirk, UFA
Aaron Dell, UFA

Draft
Holtz

Available for Use in Trades
Risto
Montour
Rhino
Miller
Mojo
Thompson
Mitts
2021-1st

Compliance Buyout
Okposo

Skinner - Eichel - Holtz
Olofsson - Strome - Tuch
Kahun - Cozens - Anderson
Asplund - Larry - Lazar

Dahlin - Shattenkirk
McCabe - Joker
Pilut - Miller

Ullmark
Dell

- IonSabres

Isn’t that the exact opposite of the type of partner we want for Dahlin?
I’d think we want a stay at home, defensive type
That way Dahlin is more free to rush the puck up the ice

I've posted 4 different links in which it states that they wouldn't give up the 3rd.
I know you're delusional with most your views and won't admit when you're wrong, but once in a while you should pause for a minute to research actual facts.
Just because you keep saying something doesn't make it any more true.

that is true.. in the short period of time he was here i think he did more than RamRod and Sheary did the whole season. Not sure what Pitt was thinking on that one.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks we won a trade after a guy plays only 6 games?

Kahun was an undrafted free agent that played overseas.

Am I the only poster that is taking kahun at a slow rate?

Guy hasnt proved anything really to me....

Kahun should be an effective 3rd line winger in my eyes. What we were hoping to get with Sheary in the first place.

gotta get mccabe out of that lineup
- navinrjohnson

I heard an interview on The Instagators where Ullmark was asked what defenseman of ours was best in the defensive end...
His answer was McCabe

They then commented that Hutton said the same thing

I wonder where the disconnect is that the fan’s think he blows,
but the goalies obviously value him

Curious
