Except for all the years he put up better numbers than Drew Doughty.

Except for all the years he put up better numbers than Drew Doughty. - James_Tanner
2011/12 - Gardiner had 30 points and missed the playoffs. Doughty had 36 and won the Cup.
2012/13 - Gardiner played 12 games
2013/14 - Gardiner had 31 points and missed playoffs. Doughty had 37 and won the Cup again.
2014/15 - Gardiner had 24 points, and was -23. Doughty had 46 and was again a plus player.
2015/16 - Gardiner 31, minus 15. Doughty 51 points, plus 24, won the Norris Trophy
I could go on. There wasn't one single season when Gardiner outscored Doughty. Not one single season when he logged the same minutes as Doughty. Gardiner's playoff resume is an absolute joke compared to Doughty. Virtually anyone involved in the sport of hockey would agree that Gardiner has never come close to Doughty.
But cue the response about a bunch of nonsense stats that you rely so heavily on. The same stats that led you to believe that Galchenyuk was better than Domi? The same stats that led you to believe Keller, Schmaltz, Dvorak were all budding stars signed to great contract?

You had no standing nor a legitimate basis for making that judgement.

Do you really think points are the best way to evaluate a defensemen?
Gardiner was excellent for a long time.
So was Doughty. Do you think LA doesn’t win any cups with Gardiner instead of Doughty? |

DeAngelo and a #1 pick for Stepan and a back-up goalie was also another trade gone bad. Maybe Chayka doesn't know what he's doing? Although I hope we'll see Stepan on the list soon. Is Hayton top 5? - Kooleus
That was a really bad trade in retrospect |

Gardiner is a nice player. Nothing more. Doughty is a future hall of famer. Gardiner is not remotely close to Doughty as a player. Is that what you're suggesting? No, LA does not win any cups with Gardiner in place of Doughty.

Of course points are not the only thing to evaluate. Neither is plus/minus, minutes played, Stanley Cups, Norris Trophies, and playoff success. Doughty beats Gardiner in every single one of those.
So please share all of the aspects where Gardiner was better. Should be a long list to dwarf everything above. Because Tanner's assertion is Gardiner "outperformed" Doughty for a bunch of years. Prove it then... |

Corsi! Duh!
Right now, the NHL is in deliberations to award the Stanley Cup to the team with the highest Corsi!. |

Don't forget his new favourite - WAR. I wonder what other 5-on-5 stats people can focus on. Forget about PK right. Because when you are winning 2-1 in the 3rd and have to kill a penalty...do you want to put out Doughty or Jake Gardiner for the kill? Everyone that understands the game chooses Doughty, but I guess most coaches are dinosaurs. |

What exactly was your basis on evaluating Domi as a person? Just curious what his character flaws were. |

Thanks James, I wasn't aware that you had an alt. But I'm glad that you base evaluations of a player's character off of a 20 minute interview. - jmatchett383
I'm Tanner. 😂 I posted these vids to show that Max Domi is the opposite of what Tanner says he is. What's wrong with you? |

I would I never have an alt account, but If I did, it certainly wouldn't be the worst most annoying person to have an account at hockeybuzz.
For the record, I know Domi is a Trump supporter and that's enough for me to be disgusted by him. - James_Tanner
Aw poor Jimmy Troller. I'm sure Domi wouldn't be a fan of yours either. |

Gardiner has been a really good 2nd pair NHL defenseman in his career. Doughty is a Norris trophy winning NHL #1 defenseman who will be going in the hall of fame. It's not close.
