I’m guessing if you played you were a goaltender. Either that or your kid plays in the net.
Either way, I’m glad you’re not the one making picks for the Hawks. - Ogilthorpe2
Nope never played goal (some in Ball hockey as I got older) or have any kids .Playing out for sometime in many different leagues there was never anything more deflating then a week goal or weak goaltending .
A great young goalie like Askarov will inspire confidence in a young Defense, who as of right now looks like it will not have a Stud defensive defenseman like Seabs for a anchor
I am Glad I am not making the picks for the HAWKS either ,way to much pressure .I was all for Cozens last year ,but Dach was always 2A So I was happy with the out come . Was sad to see Cozens go to Buffalo ,will stunt his growth worse then Cigarettes.Right now I don't have a 2nd choice behind Askarov but who ever Stan and his team decide on will be ok with me . |

The funny thing about that is Seabrook was playing virtually the exact same way (albeit a bit slower), he just did not have nearly as dynamic a partner for the last few years. I'm intrigued to see how well he bounces back from his surgeries (whether on the Hawks or some other team). - Chunk
Watching the 2010 playoffs over again Seabrook 1st stride was outstanding, unfortunately haven't seen that the past couple of years, so quick and efficient

Looks at the names of Canadian guys that were on that team too..... impressive. All probably hall of fame guys except Dan Boyle and Seabs.
Still not sure how Brenden Morrow made that roster and Martin St. Louis was left off. - bhawks2241
If Sergei Zubov is in the Hall of Fame, Seabrook should be in the Hall of Fame.

Mitchell says his idol is Keith. If he has anywhere close to Keith's work ethic, I would not worry about his size at all. - LAHawk
Wonderful. Another 10+ years of a defenseman shooting the puck in an opposing player's shin pads on the power play. |

If there is some sort of compliance buyout with Seab's being the logical contract to exercise it on, I wouldn't be surprised if he were back with organization in some capacity some day.
Either way, from what I've read about him, if that were to happen, sounds like it would be a tough pill to swallow. - HawkintheD
It sounds like someone put out some news about compliance buyouts today, as there are articles on it in the Suntimes, and Athletic so far. |

Thanks Wiz. It seems like Moberg has made himself known a few times as well. It's nice to see that we not only have some depth built up in the lower ranks, but different kinds of depth. We have some big guys, some offensive guys, some "all-around" guys, and a couple of nasties. - Chunk
I loved Moberg when he was picked and he has only grown more game this season.
This kid has a big time point shot, some grit and lots of smarts along with good agility...

There is a reason I'm not on Twitter...
I would be willing to bet quite a bit that Buff never plays again. |

Good call on both fronts.
Very possible he just doesn't want to play another. |

I'd like to see a one day contract with the hawks. Him & Versteeg & maybe Bolland (?) all come back to the hawks in some form after hanging up their skates. *crosses fingers* |

Well, he can hit all the shinpads he wants if
A) He pinches like he did against Boston and made a sweet little pass to Toews to Bickell
B) Gets his weak shot through and follows up and flips it over a sprawling goalie for the first goal of the game.
c) Can play about 27 minutes a game for 10 years without missing a beat.
D) Has the highest compete level of probably anyone in the sport (and an occasional nasty that keeps the opponents on their toes.)

LOVED him during our Cup runs. The time has passed. A big "no" here. Give him a "Buff" night when he returns to the city in another teams jersey. Time to move on ... |

If he wants to come play forward I would be ok with giving him a try. My guess is he retires. A lot of work to be NHL ready. |

If true:
That means Toronto has 5 mil. to sign 7 players
Tampa Bay has 5 mil. to sign 8 players
Washington has $10 mil. to sign 7 players
Nashville has $9 mil. to sign 6 players.
Vegas has $9 mil. to sign 9 players
Chicago has $7 mil. to sign 5 players (2 goalies)
You might see a Delia/Subban goalie tanden.
Robin Lehner really screwed up, he will be lucky to get $4 mil. on a 3 year deal. |

NHLPA spokesman says that’s not accurate. That no decision has been made yet on next year’s cap.
My own take: as I wrote a few weeks ago, freezing the cap a few years at the current number or close to it is possible, yes. But not decided yet.

I get what you are saying with the bolded, but I think it all will come down to how the pairs (and more to the point the 5 man units) can play collectively in front of the goalie. It may look completely different than what we had in 10, 13 or even 15, (just a pure track meet vs possession game for example) but they can be just as effective.
I'll be interested to see how it all comes together in the coming years (assuming that we get back to hockey shortly of course). - Chunk
Good thoughts, Chunk.
The Hawks do seem to be grooming well rounded defenders who skate well, play reliable defense, battle for pucks, make quick transitions, carry the mail, and contribute offensively.
I'd be totally fine rolling 3 balanced pairs versus having a bonafide #1, #2, and #3 then spare parts or placeholders for #4 thru #7.
The cream of the crop will rise like Boqvist and Mitchell but that doesn't mean they are automatically the 1st pair (they're both RHD anyway). Spread them out with complementary partners.
Especially in the playoffs, D depth will prove useful. Herculanian performances by just 3-4 defenders are fun to watch but also not sustainable or easy to replicate. |

So, likely Maatta and Smith get bought out. Something like 1.7 hit against the cap for the next 4 years, but you free up 5.6 under the cap in the next two. |
