You are correct Laine will want a ton,

Thankful Jets have some unbelievable deals in place with guys like Shiefele, Ehlers and Morrisey. I also have no issue with Connor or Helly’s deal.
This is a set back year for Winnipeg no doubt but the future is still very bright. Would be better without Maurice but that’s a topic for another day.

The jets and Leafs are actually extremely similar. Great forwards, goal scoring not an issue. D sucks and are too reliant on great goaltending.

Our D should look different next year. I’m excited for Samberg and Heinola and see who else we bring in.

- Ross77

Freddy sucks. Hallebucky is playing very well,.

Leafs are in good shape as well. they can move any deal they want.

The story is massive. The guy appeared on U.S late night talk shows. When does hockey ever register like that?

Zamboni drive won against a' big cup contenter' deal with it, it was a big deal

Was the equivalent here : Guy selling peanuts in the stand come to close a game in MLB?

- Xizord

Thing people ignore is that the Zamboni driver played goalie for the Marlies when he was younger. It is not like some rando played

No he didn't.

He was an emergency back up for them twice but never saw the ice.

That's because the Leafs, and anyone paying attention knows two things

1) They were out of the game by the time he came in
2) Carolina completely shut them down.

Saying that a Zambonie driver beat them is pretty dumb.

- Aetherial

Not true. They scored 2 goals on the first two shots. Its a 40+ guy who hasnt played in years. You shoot from anywhere. They had a PP and had 0 shots. The team played poorly but they could have easily gotten back in the game. It was embarrassing.

Carolina played unbelievable in that 3rd period. Even Jake Gardiner was blocking shots. Good for Ayres but he never faced a tough shot in the 3rd. Leafs barely had the puck.

Why would the Leafs trade Tyson Barrie for a crappy return?
- RogerRoeper

I agree that they should have traded him, because now they're going to lose him for nothing..........but I find it laughable that he criticizes the leafs in one para for not moving Barrie, and in the next para criticizes them for not acquiring a dman.

so you suck for not trading away a dman, and you suck for not trading for a dman....

I think many teams way overpaid on deadline day

Surprised that JG Pageau for 3 pics

and then gets paid $5m per....for a 3rd line player

Glad we got rid of Lou....Ill keep the boy wonder compared to deals like that

it was on site equipment, to be fair he does practice sometimes with AHL ,NHL players , so I hate the fact guys like Brian Burke called him '' the beer league guy''.

There are videos and photos of Ayers in net for the practicing Leafs during one of their outdoor practices while wearing the Marlies mask and gear. And I swore during that post game interview he complimented the Marlies equipment guy who gets him his gear.

I generally love Burke but frack his comments about this whole episode. He's only chiming in to get in the limelight that is Ayers. And maybe trying to be the next Cherry.

No I don't think it is.

Just clarifying.

the most embarrassing moment in NHL history was probably the Patrik Stefan missed empty net.

that or the time Keith Ballard slashed his own goalie in the head

How about Dan Boyle scoring on his own net in the playoffs?

Steve Smith scoring on his own net vs Calgary in the 1986 playoffs. Knocked the Oilers out during their dynasty years.

I thought it was cause no one really gave a poop about them till the got called a bunch of jerks and they ran with it. Hell I enjoyed that, and also getting rid of Don Cherry wasn't bad either...

And what? Pretty good third liner. He has 25 goals.
- gergeswillems

yeah, but he's 27. And this year's output is the highest he's ever had, by a wide margin. What do you really think the chances are he's transformed from a 35 point player to a 60 point 30 goal scorer? and what do you think the chances are he had a hot streak?

It wouldn't matter too much if it was JUST a rental, but the contract could be a problem. I'm not saying it will, because $5M isn't too out of control.

Playing on teams that don't have proper top line players can often have the effect of pumping up some players stats. When you have no one else to give PP time other than a mediocre player that doesn't deserve the time, it has the effect of pumping up that players stats. Think of it as the Karlsson effect. The guy was getting like 6 minutes of PP time, and enormous amounts of OZ starts, at times of his career in Ottawa. That's bound to have an impact on a players point totals...... The claims were that if he went to a better team, he'd score more. But that doesn't seem to be coming to fruition, does it?

It often doesn't. Because they don't get all the same ice time.
