I'd say one of the biggest losers on TDL Day was your credibility but that was gone years ago

Gary Lawless believed it and I saw so many fans linking to his article.

do you really want me to start quoting what so many Leaf fans say every year????
true story,
I was never against the Leafs or had any problem with them until I lived in Toronto for a few years in the mid 90's and had to listen and read everyday how great they were, how guys like sundin, Clark, Gilmour....whoever were all Gretzky/Howe like. Man, would I get into arguments and even a few scraps back then, good times....lol Jets fans got nothin on Leaf fans for pounding the kool aid

I am deeply flattered.

In fact, I regularly said the Leafs should draft Matthews at #1. I was never ambiguous on that specific point.

But, I did cast some doubt on the Leafs ability to get it right and said if anyone could screw it up it would be the Leafs.

At the time, I did not anticipate that Matthews would insist on a short term contract in order for him to head to Arizona. But, nobody is always right.

The real loser at the deadline was you Eklund. How many trades did you call? After posting hundreds of rumors? 0. At the last day you tried to post rumours of things that were already confirmed to try and fool a few people.

its seems silly to put up projections that hold no value , rediculous to project 20 gms out ,with injuries ,trade s working or not ....
after going 5-8 then 1-2 your picks are not worth it ,maybe a guess would sum it up

Eklund,

please respond

how do you see the Rangers only getting 7 points in their last 20 games

I am not trolling, I just want it explained to me

- jimbro83

Eklund is a Flyers fan and doesn't like the Rangers. Eklund also doesn't obviously like the Canucks. His opinions are not worth anything as he's a hockey simpleton but his website provides a great forum for fans to talk from across the league.

How did THAT guy slip to the second round?
- gergeswillems

Smallish, not super fast and maybe a little too flashy for his own good.

Thought was that he was really smart and has a tremendous drive, but may not be big enough to handle the every day grind of being a center in the NHL. Plus he's European, so.

Sound like anyone Wings fans know?

Isles aren't built like the Leafs. Depth wins in the playoffs. How's blowing your Cap on 4 young stars working for the Leafs? Isles won a playoff round last season. The Leafs didn't. There's no one way to build a Cup winner. I'm not going to say the Isles way is smarter than what the Leafs are doing. Any team would love to have Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Nylander. But you talk as if the Leafs have won the last 4 Stanley Cups while the Isles are running their Franchise into the ground. Leafs are fighting to make the playoffs just like the Isles are. Isles are in a much tougher division.
- gergeswillems

Think so? I don't. Most of the teams that have won in the last decade are loaded with elite players, some with little to no depth. The Pens are loaded at the top, but won a cup with a defense that was hobbled together with fillers when Letang got hurt. And their wingers were nothing special at all.

Keith/Seabrook/Kane/Toews and their later cups wasn't overly loaded depth wise

St Louis had decent depth, but great high end too.

Which cup winning teams haven't had top 10 at their position talent recently? I don't think a single one.

Yup. Islanders are seriously lacking in high end talent and Pageau isn't that player.

They got severely exposed last year in the playoffs when they got completely shut down by a grinding team and their response to that was.... nothing. They did nothing to fix it.

Pens won a Cup with the HBK line (Hagelin-Bonino-Kessel) as their 3rd line. Chicago had amazing depth in their Cup years but had to sell them off to stay under the Cap especially after Toews and Kane got paid the big bucks. Comparing Matthews and Marner to Crosby and Malkin or Toews and Keith is a bit of a stretch. Not talent wise. But Matthews and Marner haven't won anything yet.

Neither has Tavares. They may do so over the next few years. That's what the Leafs are banking on. The Jimmy Tanner theory. Pay your stars and surround them with replaceable cheap guys. It only works if your best players carry the team. So far in the playoffs that hasn't been the case for the Leafs.

Many fans believe the stars cancel each other out in the playoffs and it's the depth guys who decide games or a series. I don't buy that entirely. While Lars Eller came up big for the Caps in their 2018 Cup run, it was Ovechkin, Kuznetsov and Carlson leading the way. Bottom line is you need both. Your stars have to lead the way but you need your depth guys to step up as well.

I don't view the Isles as a Cup contender. But I'm not going to pretend the Leafs are one too. That's my point. Roeper keeps pushing this flawed narrative that the Leafs are an elite Cup contender and the Isles are garbage. That simply isn't true. No matter how many times he insinuates it.

That's fair.

I love the Leafs forward corps but thus far they've shown no evidence that they can survive much push back. Their flashy and talented but you never get the sense that they find losing unacceptable. or that they take it personally.
