Nelson is three points away from last season's 82 game total in 62 games this year. That contract is more than fine. And Pageau doesn't need to be posting 60 point seasons to be earning that money.
I'm not sitting here saying either contract is some sort of home-run deal made by Lou, but he's paying fair market value. Pageau would have easily gotten $5M or more on the open market in July. - eichiefs9
Lou is paying a lot to supporting guys and aging players. i don't think it's good at all. Especially when they need top 6 talent. |

Isles aren't built like the Leafs. Depth wins in the playoffs. How's blowing your Cap on 4 young stars working for the Leafs? Isles won a playoff round last season. The Leafs didn't. There's no one way to build a Cup winner. I'm not going to say the Isles way is smarter than what the Leafs are doing. Any team would love to have Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Nylander. But you talk as if the Leafs have won the last 4 Stanley Cups while the Isles are running their Franchise into the ground. Leafs are fighting to make the playoffs just like the Isles are. Isles are in a much tougher division. |

Leafs HANDS DOWN BIGGEST LOSERS ON DEADLINE DAY. Dubas failed to solidify D, and didn't acquire checking C face off specialist which will kill them in the playoffs.
Countdown to second departure of Tavares. Full NMC and an $11 million cap hit means low return in a trade.
Matthews must be homesick. |

A "set back year". LOL. Their defense walked en masse. I always said there would be problems there, with Buff being so old, Trouba a malcontent. I suspect you'll see further decline out of Wheeler too, given his age.
I think the Jets will need a retool, that will last at least a couple of years. - prock
You always said hey, lol!!!!!
They are fine. 5 - 20’ goal scorers already, core players locked up, young D on the way next year, plenty of cap space.
Jets will be fine. But hey, you keep on saying whatever it is you keep on saying |

They don't have depth though. They have no scoring whatsoever. That was what killed them last year and it still is not addressed.
Why spend 3-5 million per on so many bottom 6 guys? You can find qualirty ones every summer for much cheaper. Look at Spezza's #'s for 700K
There is no one who will take Isles core over Leafs. No one.
I see that a lot. People think Leafs have no depth because of 40 million on 4 forwards. Except they do have depth. They are getting killed with injuries and are in a playoff spot.
Isles won 1 single more game than the Leafs did last year in the playoffs against easier competition (but yet the "Tougher division" argument works for you this year). Worthless argument. |

Maybe their new coach won't put a guy on 1 leg taking face/offs against Bergeron? |

I'm sure you thought it was a good deal last year.
BTW, laine signed for only 2 years and will want as much as Marner soon.
Matthews is on a 60 goal, 100 point pace. Marner 96 point pace.
These 2-3 year deals given out to Laine, Boeser and Point are just avoiding the inevitable. And the cap and salaries are rising. - RogerRoeper
Matthews is not on that pace.

I don't really have high hopes for my Sabres for the remainder of the year but by that chart above I'm pretty sure they're going to get more than 4 Points over 21 games |

What's this amazing depth the Leafs have? You'd seriously take the Leafs defense over the Isles defense? I wouldn't. But apparently defense isn't needed in Toronto. I'm confused. If the Leafs big 4 stars are producing and they have this amazing depth then why are they fighting for a playoff spot? Shouldn't they be challenging Boston and Tampa for the #1 seed? The Leafs haven't won anything with this core group. The NHL isn't a video game. Until they've done it they haven't done it. |

It’s sooooo funny to me how much Laine is in the heads of Leafs fans.
Laine has had a very good year, very improved 200’ game and he’s hitting a ton and developing nicely. Glad to see it. |

Yes and I would take the forward group as well. Only a hot start has saved the Islanders.
Leafs are without Rielly and Muzzin. Wasn't that supposed to guarantee the end of them?
Isles have on nothing as well. |

Bullpoop. Fans believed it 100%. They even had that annoying TSN Jets fan-Gary Lawles- pen an article on why Laine was going to be better. Jets fans studied that like it was the bible.
Agreed. Laine has been great. He should surpass Marner's contract with 18 months. |

Just wait until they find out that Svechnikov is producing at a higher rate at age 19 than Matthews or Marner was at the same age. |

You seem rattled about the Isles. You told me in September the Leafs had a top 5 defense. Pens have suffered numerous injuries and they keep rolling. Your excuse is worthless. |

I count 55 goals, 94 points for Matthews
20 goals, 83 points for Marner (Which yes, is 96 points over a full season, but Marner isn't playing a full season)
