Man you guys love shoe-horning Nylander into every conversation for some reason - eichiefs9
Me? Not at all. I barely ever bring him up. He's been brought up many times here, so he was the easiest example.
It's Roeper that licks Nylander's bumhole. |

I'm sure there was criticism, but none of that has to do with the fact that he shows up in threads that have nothing to do with the Leafs or Nylander or his contract and repeatedly screams it in everyone's face for some reason - eichiefs9
Well take that up with him. Not me. I find him obnoxious too. There is little to no substance in his posts. It's all griping. |

Roeper's posts are stupid, yep.
But in fairness, when Matthews was rated very highly by TSN in preseason stuff, this place went ape poop. And went on about him not being top 20 or 30, or such. It happened 2 years in a row. - prock
That's what he is conviently forgetting. Matthews is looked at as the most overrate player by far in the NHL.
Leaf fans did point out his amazing per/60 stats and lack of usage by Babcock. That was ignored. |

I don't know how anyone could think that. Matthews has 43 goals in 64 games. The only knock I heard about Matthews last summer was missing games to injuries. But that was a straw man argument. He's been an elite player from Day 1. |

Fair enough.
Regarding the rest of your previous post....Pageau didn't regress. He improved. You can't make an argument about paying a guy after a career season and then tell me he doesn't deserve a raise in the same breath. That's entirely contradictory.
For what it's worth, I'm not saying there's no merit to your "career year" argument, I get that. But you can't tell me that he's having a great season and then turn around and say that he is currently paid commensurately for his service and doesn't deserve a raise. |

I don't care.
He could win the Richard Trophy, so he's shut them up. I don't hear much about him not being very good out of other team's anymore. So let it go. |

No he isn't! 😂 Give me one legitimate source saying Matthews is the most overrated player in the NHL. I'll wait... Your Leafs victim mentality is hilarious.😂 |

I don't know if that happened this year. And definitely does not anymore. But yeah, the uproar about the TSN preseason rankings was hilarious. And really, it's TSN rankings. Why someone would get so worked up over them is beyond me anyway. |

I wasn't saying he has regressed. Clearly not, he's in the middle of a career year. Is this the new Pageau? I'm skeptical, because so few players hit their stride at 27. It comes way earlier than that, normally. To me, he's a $3M or $4M player int he midst of a career year. That's what I see.
He's worth more than $5M if he's gonna score 30 goals and 60 points from now on. If he goes back to 35 points, I would rather not have him on the roster at $5M, even for the other things he brings. In my opinion, the latter is more likely than the former (but will probably be somwehre between the two).

It isn't really said anymore. But it WAS. I think Roeper is a little stuck in the last couple of years. |

In a vacuum, I don't disagree with what you're valuing him at but I don't think you're accounting for market dynamics on the price of UFA's or pending UFA's. An open market has influence on the price of goods, that's a concept as old as time (I'm not implying you don't understand that).
This isn't exactly a banner year for UFA's and the Islanders had a major need for a 3C that they just filled for the next six seasons. |

a weak year for UFAs, in my opinion, is a bad reason to overpay for 6 fricken years.
And as it was said about Muzzin earlier, it goes to age 34. If a 4 year contract that goes to 34 is a bad idea, certainly a 6 year one is worse.
Whatever, you guys got a guy you wanted. I'm just not a fan of the trade and contract. Giving up 3 picks to sign a guy like that to a 6 year contract and full market value to a 27 year old player in the middle of a season that he's wildly outproducing his former seasons, partly because he's on a team that has nobody else to divy up PP time and nice offensive opportunities to, just all seems like a bad idea.
We'll see how it works out. |
