The Dumo issue has worried me for a couple of weeks. Watching JJ next to Letang has become painful. Free Riikki!
So obviously a LHD is a must. Should have been done when Dumo first went down because the severity was known.
Random thought.... I'd prefer a right handed wing capable of playing up and down the roster, but I saw somebody mentioning Marleau. I've not watched any Sharks games and I have no idea if he can still skate. He's got 10g and 10a. Maybe bring him on board for a little extra motivation. Probably a dumb idea, but he can probably still shoot a puck. |

@madmike:
I think when trading for a forward the most important thing is to get a right handed shot that can play on the left dot of the PP1. Where they play in the lineup at 5v5 is largely irrelevant to me. You can get a 4th line LW for all I care as long as he’s right handed and productive on the PP1. |

With the MLB format, most teams would just choose who they are supposed to play. They did this in the SPHL for a few years and the teams just chose who they were supposed to play based on the standings anyway |

Recognizing that sports are a form of entertainment, I don't prefer the choose-your-opponent style of playoffs. I don't know... it just seems a bit WWE-ish… big production, lots of screaming, laser light show, etc... maybe TOO much entertainment, and not enough real sport. Lets the standings (though THAT could change) dictate playoff opponents.
MLB is a mess these days, I wouldn't emulate anything they do, or are considering doing. |

I don’t care about chose your own opponent format one way or another. I am, however, massively in favor of conference seeding instead of devisional seeding. |

And reseeding. Otherwise what’s the point of being a 1 seed. |

By conference, I'd prefer... 1 plays 16, and so on... then maybe we could finally play the Caps for the conference title. |

1 to 16 is a tough sell due to travel, and time change stuff. Would be rough for say the PIT market when half of their playoff games start at 10/1030 local time. |

NJ has the pieces we would really covet... Palmieri , Coleman, or Gusev. I just see it unlikely JR does any deal within the division. And I agree with other we should be prioritizing right handed PP guys.
I'm not wild about Toffoli but he might be the most logical choice at this point. |

Coleman and Gusev would be nice gets, but the Pens already have a log-jam at LW.
Adding Palmieri right now and also for a full healthy lineup next year would be amazeballs, but I don't know that the Pens have the ability to make that move. I believe their 1st for next year can't be moved or something has to be done in order to make it available since there are conditions tied to it. You can also bet that NJ would want either Poulin or Legare which seem to be off-limits.
Also, I'm not sure why you don't like Toffoli. LA has been badly mismanaging him and dude is still producing. Toffoli, who's also a RW, is the perfect rental IMO. |

I've always liked Toffoli. He's the player I wanted Ruth to get.
I don't think there's any impact moves in our future. Zucker was it. Depth D and 3rd/4th liner is possible I guess. Not even sure they do that. I think Rutherford is absolutely telling the truth when he says he'll evaluate the D right before the deadline. If Dumo is still not skating, he'll be forced to make a depth move.
How long will Dumo need is my question. Probably a couple weeks after he resumes skating. |

Same with Bjugstad. If he isn't ready by the deadline I could absolutely see GMJR bring in another center or even winger and kick McCann back to center. BUT I would take his word on it that he has no intention of making a move until the last 48hrs. |

Re: Gusev: He’s a right handed shot, which is all that matters. Kahun, Simon, and to a lesser extent Zucker can all play the right side effectively so you can just put a lefty at RW at even strength to accommodate Gusev in your 5v5 lineup.
Zucker-Crosby-Simon
Kahun-Malkin-Rust
Gusev-McCann-Hornqvist
ZAR-Blueger-Tanev
Guentzel isn’t coming back until the ECF at the earliest, so there’s no use holding a forward spot for him given that we could very well get knocked out before he comes back. |

Based on the articles and interviews I've read I think GMJR does want to add a bottom 6 forward to make sure that last line is playable. C/LW would be ideal.
I think the 48 hour thing is more about the defense. Both potential moves will be value ones though, he's made his big splash for the year. |

Just seems easier to get Toffoli who's a natural RW or like we've discussed, Grandlund or Smith from NSH.
If Gusev can play RW he'd be a good set-up guy on the first line. |

I'm not sure Gusev is available, but there should be no problems with stashing a PP guy on that line with McCann and Hornqvist. It's not like an offensive player has nobody to work with there. |

Gusev is a pretty create passer too. He would be a nice addition to the left halfwall on the PP. I just don't see NJ making any moves right now outside of dealing Vatanen and Simmons. |
