A 60 point dman suggest he does that regularly. He had one good year offensively, hasn't come close to matching it, and is horrendous defensively.

Value wise, I can't imagine any teams coughing up more than a guy like Hyman, in fact, probably not as much. Not for a dman that can be more accurately described as someone you can expect 30, maybe 40 points, and a disaster in his own zone. Maybe more like Kerfoot or something.

But, I doubt you'd see much interest from the Leafs anyway. The Leafs need a defensive dman, not Gostisbehere.

Name me some D-men that have EVER scored 60 points that are in the league now? How many of them are in their mid-20s? How many of them are on contracts under $5,000,000?

Niedermaier took a while to bloom into an all-around D-man. Ghost could be another Tom Poti but Kapanen isn't exactly an elite talent.

CBJ's Josh Anderson (think tom Wilson without being a butthole) , Ryan Murray (top line right shot D man stuck on 2nd paring because of Jones and Werenski) plus a pick or prospect for Nylander. This plugs the defensive hole and lack of grit Toronto has and opens cap space to get their much needed back up goalie. It also fills CBJ's need for a true top line winger.

I like your moxie - trading for a guy who may never play again!

Yeah I don't think that's a trade either team should be looking for.

I am not sure this is fair value for the Flyers. 60 point D-men (even ones who cough the puck up and miss the net a lot now) are close to IMPOSSIBLE to find.

Sami's son is a nice player but not a game-changer.

I would rather see Ghost and a solid but not A-list prospect to WPG to Buff but not sure how to make the $$$ work in the short term.

The Flyers would be SO SO SO SCARY with Big Buff out there even if for two years and he retired. He's not Pronger (nobody is) but he's in the ball park.

WPG would replace a malcontent in Buff with a young D-man with PROVEN high upside on a killer contract AND a prospect.

That looks like a win-win to me.

The Jets would want someone physical and more consistent than Ghost for Buff.

Leafs would likely move AJ or Hyman before Nylander or Kapanen.

I'd suspect Dubas would rather deal with a Western Conference team. Think of what Kap or Nylander would do multiple times a year on an Eastern Conference team.

I'm a Kings fan and may be drinking a bit of the Kool-Aid, but what would you think about Martinez (good 2nd pairing/great 3rd pairing D), Jack Campbell (a more than adequate back-up/potential future No. 1) and a second for either Nylander or Kapanen and a 4th or 5th.

Kapanen for Brodie and the Flames retain 1.45 million of Brodies salary giving the Leafs some cap room..

Ummmm, Barrie is who they are trying to upgrade on now. He has put up 59 in 78, and 57 in 68 (yeah, technically not 60, but...), and is currently only making 2.75 mil at age 28. In order for TO to get balance, they need a good D-Man (or two) that play a great defensive game.

Edit: Gustafsson put up 60 in CHI last year, is 27, and makes 1.2 mil. Doubt he would help TO's position at all now either. Just not what they need.

Kapanen's a much better two way player who's not afraid of the physical part of the game. Nylander can put up more points, however is a prima donna ballerina who constantly avoids body contact. Toronto has plenty of offense....get rid of Nylander and they'd get more than Kappanen would fetch.

Wouldn't the Leafs rather hold on to Nylander and Kap, and just move someone like Hyman for a rental?

It would take both Nylander and Kapanen in a trade to get a top pairing d-man at this point in the season.

Any article stating that TO including Ceci in a deal is adding positive value loses all credibility.

All fine and dandy, but you can probably reasonably expect 40 points out of him, not 60, and a horrendous defensive game. "OMG 60 POINT DMAN HE'S WURTH A LOT" is misleading, because that's not what any team trading for him is getting.

He's not Niedermayer, he can't play defense. And he's exactly what the Leafs don't need. No thank you.
