We could get really good value for Palms, Vats, Coleman and a few others but you got to be honest with the fans in doing something like that and say its going to be some time before money is spent on guys not already here.

Obviously we would be a mess if most those guys where moved but the pieces those guys should yeild would really help a rebuild.

It'll definitely be interesting now to see what Fitz does at the deadline. He knows our roster and assets just as well as Ray did, but i have no idea if this move changes who is or isnt available in the next month

I agree. We could keep these vets and have the young guys age with them, or trade them and develop new talent around Hischier/Hughes.

Should be no shortage of excitement around here.

I wonder how many teams will be calling Fitzy asking his prices ?

Its our second shot at a real rebuild since the first go we didnt have the talent to sell that we can now if they want to go scorched earth.

I just do not know if I trust management - are they into building NJ and investing?

I wonder if Sheros handling of Hall was the last straw for ownership...

These guys aren't the owners with deep pockets who has a sports team for fun, they need Devils/Sixers to turn a profit and run them accordingly.

Yep. The owners bought this team because of the gate of all the events at Pru Center, not because the love the Devils and hockey. The days of free spending Vanderbeek are long gone.

Say what you will about Vanderbeek, he always spent money to make the team competitive. It would be nice to see Harris put more of that into this team, since Shero had to deal with having one of the lowest payrolls in the league for five years straight. But if you look at the Sixers they still don't invest that much money and take a long term approach just to make the team decent enough to make the team draw fans. It isn't a great look moving forward.

It’s basically like ownership said here’s a rapidly aging team with zero organizational depth. We need you to turn it into a winner and you’re not going to have nearly the financial resources your predecessor had, and oh yeah, If your 18-20 year old prospects don’t turn the team into a winner within 3 years, you’re out.

No money to spend during free agency, and Shero brought in good players all from trades and drafting. I fully expect this roster to be blown up by the deadline and all of the "older" players we like will be gone.

The interesting thing will be if Fitzy is calling the shots at the deadline who goes because he was behind the bench unlike Ray.

So now that the period is over...where does the team go from here? Who takes over as GM at the end of the year? Do they fire sale and start rebuild 2.0?

Good questions. One thing from this is that Naz is as good as gone. Time to burn it to the ground, this was not working.

Interesting if true. I wouldn’t mind a Vatanen extension. He still has good years ahead of him.

I’d like to cut ties with the management team altogether. Get Fitz out. Also want an established coach who can implement a system and develop players. Laviollette or Guy Boucher would be at the top of my list.

The start of foolish moves to try and win now. Seems like we are heading towards a rush job "we have space and picks " Ray was fired for not winning now are we going to start pissing away all our futures to try and win asap?

I think this team still needs a long term approach.

Now we can still have that and keep Vats but he would have been a real nice trade chip for a team thats still a ways away.

Maybe it was Shero trying to dump parts at the deadline. Would be very happy with Vats for 5 years, he's the best defenseman on the roster currently.

I like Sami, but he is 29 in June, his slide has begun, do not want to pay for that.

We have Subban who isnt going anywhere and we can resign Greene for one year cheao for veterans . Vats is too nice a piece to not get value for imo.

At some point you have to stop trading away all of your NHL level talent just to get younger and more new shiny objects.

I laugh when teams add players like Lovejoy for their veteran-ness. But Vatanen can still play and there’s something to be said for having leadership on the team.

Greene likely gone, probably the same with Simmonds.

But I’m good with extending Vatanen and keeping guys that still have value like Zajac and Palmieri around.

Now if we could dump the Rooney’s and Hayden’s of the world and bring up some of the guys we invested draft capital in like McLeod and Bastian and give them a legit shot finally that would be just dandy.

I said during that game where Hayden scored against the Hawks that he was never going to sit again, and that is exactly what's happened.

We havent really traded anything of value away except for Hall we didnt get nice shiny things, we where constantly trading turds like stempniak. Now we have a guy who should be able to fetch a first or a decent prospect at the end of his deal and this season is over so why not like I said keep cheap veterans not expensive ones...
