Franchise simply needs a culture change. I don't think it's happening anytime soon. Too many passengers on this team. If this was a team full of Colemans they could conquer the world. But sadly 90 percent of the rest of the lineup is the extreme opposite. Too many lazy players. There are guys with talent like Severson who are just head cases with low hockey IQ. Doesn't matter how much talent they have if they too often make the dumb plays and check out mentally.
Just took a peak at the B-Devils defensive depth chart
I know we have Bahl/Smith and several recent draft picks in juniors (Misyul looks to pretty decent) but its kind of sad that we don't have a top 6 level d-man playing in the AHL right now.

Gone are the days of Stevens, Niedermayer, Rafalski, Daneyko, pre eye injury Colin White patrolling the blue line. If only we realized how spoiled we were.
I can't understand why Rooney and Street are playing while McLeod and Bastian are stuck in the AHL. Let's see if one of them can be an effective third or fourth line guy. It's pretty clear what they have in Rooney and obviously Street isn't a part of their future.
Gotta think the knowledge someone like Stevens possesses is 10 x that of what Nas does but Stevens never played for the pens minor league affiliate so he cant be any good to us lol.
I use to feel good that we were simply a better run organization then our neighbors in New York but now it sure doesn't look that way.
The coaching has been a disaster and Nas might be doing better than Hynes but still isn't the right guy. We need an quality established coach.
The GM/Ownership supposedly never offered Taylor Hall a contract. We have the second lowest payroll in the league. Are these guys willing to spend?
We have a backup as a starter and an AHLer as a backup. Blackwood might be the real deal but he's still a kid and this workload is not good for him.
Yet another year of playing for the draft... May god have mercy on our souls. - Queenie_5_hole
I honestly dont think there is a plan in place at this point. Ill state right off the bat I havent fact checked but seems to me we throw away as many picks as we collect ?
Im not going to say its not worth it to take risks but how many decent 2nd round picks have we just given up ?
Im over hearing Ray say how bare everything was when he got here well it doesnt seem to be much better with all the selections his staff have made. Outside of Nico and Hughes who where complete luck Ray has Bratt and Zacha ( which was Lous pick) and now Boqvist getting in sparingly to show for the past 4 years of drafts.
I get 4 years is just starting to get into it when dealing with prospects but none of them are even at the point in the AHL where they can help us.
Looking at realistically only one guy maybe making the jump next year in Smith and thats arguable wether he will make it yet or not so whats the plan for next season ?
Dont think we should be moving picks for players anymore we dont have Taylor Hall or Schneider to appease to win now and the team should be built around Nico and Jack so what can we expect next year ? Maybe Smith and a top 3 pick joining and after that are we praying on internal growth and free agency solely to improve this team next year ?
What would have to happen next season for it to be considered a failure ? Like its hard to know when they arent really saying what or where it is we are aiming to be in one year two or 5 its like they just let it play out and when we get there is when ?

Completely agree. All the guys in the locker room talk up Greene but I really really think they need to take the C away from him, and as much as I love Zajac he shouldnt have an A anymore, they need to completely revamp the leadership group. There is no character, energy, or even any signs of life in this locker room. The league now is so even in terms of talent, yes there are obviously different tiers of teams, but so much of it comes down to the group gelling and coming together. These guys are totally unable to do so, and have been unable to for years now.
You said a lot of good things but really this is the bottom line.
We hear very little from Ray Ray. We hear little from ownership.
The whole Taylor Hall thing was some secret mystery which ended with a rushed trade and no contract being offered.
Say what you want about Lou Lams but the goal was to win and we spent a good amount of money to do it. And he was pretty successful for long time. - Queenie_5_hole
Lou lams took one guy with him to not everyone and the janitor like Ray has done here.
Any idea why we get our info from a bunch of nobodies ? I love the idea of the panel but could it have former nhlers on it ? Would much rather hear takes from ppl who played the game at a high level instead of Christ Westcott, Amanda Stein and friggin Matt Laughlin.
I lived through the 80s with this team. My college roommates were all Rags fan. It was tough, but enjoyable years because you expected nothing and were surprised occasionally (1988 was glorious). This team, I just cannot find any joy in them. There is hope in Nico and Jack, but it seems years away. Need a complete change in management, Naz is not the answer. If Shero does not work some magic at this deadline, and we are not a top five draft team, I am ready to move on as well from him. I had liked what he had done in previous years, but we have come to another dead end year, in year 5 of the rebuild. Perhaps time for new vision, unless he can make the future bright again.

1988 was crazy fun. I thought Sean Burke would be our goaltender for a long time and Schoney would be our coach even longer...
But you are right about this rebuild. Not to discount the attempts made this offseason but it seems like we are back at square one having lost Hall and not gotten any immediate help in the trade. Just a huge step back.
Rangers are run pretty well with Dolan not involved. Knicks, not so much - nyrangers2
Certainly seems that way.
I Obviously we started rebuilds from pretty different places but you guys are definitely a competitive club and the Devils certainly are a mess.
I laughed when you guys got the rebuild letter a couple years ago but at least someone in the organization felt like they should reach out and communicate what the (frank) was going on.
I am not defending Dolan on anything ever but at least he was committed to spending money and wanted to win. With our ownership it seems like a (frank) lot of window dressing.

Dolan will always write the check. Its him thinking he should be involved or knows more then the management he hires becomes the problem.

I agree. Have been around since day 1 in 1982 and this feels much worse than back then. Starting to resemble the Oilers rebuild...….never ending!

I remember this all so well....I couldn't sleep that night...I called (on my house phone for you young folks) all my Ranger fan friends (I lived in New York) that night!! It was glorious!!
