We're stuck with the contract regardless, so it's in the team's interest to keep helping him to see if he can get better. It would be beneficial for Blackwood if there was another goalie who could help him transition to a full time starter without the pressure. Also, we all know what Schneider was before the injuries. If some how he could recover there is immense talent there.

Would it not be worse for us to have him get back to normal and bump us out if the good draft spots ?

Im doubtful he gets back to being a starter so its not a huge worry but if a goalie has to grow and carry us anywhere I would rather it be Blackwood. I could live with his growth pushing us out of good spots because he should be a core piece but with Cory I have a harder time missing out on elite talent for him to get back on track for a year or two.

If he is more capable of back up duties then domingue fine but the ship has to have sailed on him being this teams starter.

Is the system better ? we are allowing just as many shots on goal.

Defensively no. Blackwood has covered up for a lot of the same deficiencies. Offensively I'd say yes. Nico and Gusev especially are thriving.

I'm not saying he's ever going to be a starter again. But if Schneider can play ~30 games a season it really helps Blackwood out. Also, we're not getting the 1-2 pick this year so we're not likely drafting a player who will be on the roster until at least a few years down the line. The team needs to start improving right now and having consistent goaltending is greatly needed.

I agree with this but I think this draft could be better then last and might yeild a few more true rookies for next season.

I still think even with Nico playing at a 70 to 80 pt pace that we are a really bad team even with Jack on a decent pace we still need a piece or two that is pegged to be elite in the future or we will still struggle to do anything like the Oilers.

We cant be saying ever that we have to much talent even with 2 first overalls. I think we dont expect 1st overall but we should still keep ourself in that hunt for a top 3 pick this year and maybe even next depending on what develops in the system.

This upcoming draft is better than last years. Its incredibly unlikely we get the top pick again so my focus has been on the rest of the early 1st round and im happy getting any pick in the top 10, a lot of elite prospects. Outside of Lafreniere, i dont think any other players will make the jump into the nhl next season. Byfield has a chance because of his size but hes no guarantee, he'll likely need another year. I'll be thrilled if we get any of Lafreniere, Byfield, Drysdale, Holtz, Stutzle, Raymond, Perfetti, Rossi, or Lundell

I'm seeing it was a "mutual agreement", so I'm guessing ownership is not happy they added money from contracts and the team isn't good.

This is the most puzzling aspect. Why fire him, why now, what is the org's game-plan - seems to be burn the tires faster.....

I'm guessing that's where there were differences of opinions. One side probably wants to dump contracts, the other wants to take on.

Disappointing. He took over a team was old and didn’t have much in the pipeline. He’s vastly improved the future talent we have. He was bottom 3-5 in payroll every year of his tenure.

But his faults were holding onto Hynes to long and not improving development at the AHL level. Even Blackwood looked like a bust in Albany, now the same going on in Binghamton with McLeod. Need to remake our AHL staff and hire an experienced NHL coach.

I’m sure Shero won’t have to wait long for a job.

We could get really good value for Palms, Vats, Coleman and a few others but you got to be honest with the fans in doing something like that and say its going to be some time before money is spent on guys not already here.

Obviously we would be a mess if most those guys where moved but the pieces those guys should yeild would really help a rebuild.

I still think the prospect pool is underwhelming but it looks good when compared to where it was, its just there isnt much star power in there.

I agree. We could keep these vets and have the young guys age with them, or trade them and develop new talent around Hischier/Hughes.
