Thanks Carol.

Northy:

Pittsburgh traded a player with downside and a third round pick for Bonino, Clandenning and a second.

Florida traded a player with downside and a fifth round pick for Jared McCann a second and a fourth round pick.

It isn't common, but it does happen occasionally.

But from the Canucks perspective, or at least JBs at the time those guys had "upside"

Todd Bertuzzi had his break out year at 24 years old after being traded from the Isles. JV is going to figure it out eventually. hopefully he will figure it out in Vancouver and then we can trade him on a high

So who's getting cheap shotted out of the line up tonight? Or will the Canucks get a suspension for an accidental hit without injury?

JV doesn't have the soft hands, hockey sense, or the size of Bertuzzi. It's a slap in the face of Bertuzzi to compare them.

I don’t think Benning partakes.

Payback would be nice. Take out one of their top guys for a bit.

?

Why is it always Bertuzzi as a comparison?

Bert was a way more talented and a much bigger player who was an actual power forward. His lateral skating was as impressive as his up and down speed. Jake isnt any of those things in reality. You could compare him with hundreds of examples more accurate than Bertuzzi.

Even the whole "power forwards take more time" narrative is over played. There are examples naturally but in reality, big skillful power forwards do just fine in their early years with exception. There really isnt a pattern unless you are cherry picking examples.

Suspension and always getting screwed on calls forever more. That's what will happen when Canucks stand up for themselves in games when the refs dont.

Heard an excuse on the radio today from one of the hosts. The penalty was only 2 min because the player doesnt have that kind of rep. (frank) off... nonsense. That has nothing to do with it. So is that why the league dont care? I've seen them slap a player who is a rookie before(JV). It was an accident and he had no history. 2 games.

This is a funny situation. The narrative is a) win the job b) they will make room.

I never in a million years though they would send Gagner to the minors last year. If they aren't truly willing to send Virtanen to Utica, then he really isn't fighting for a job. People are worried about losing him on waivers, don't care about Goldy. For me, it's six to the half. Losing one guy is the same as losing the other guy. It doesn't matter to me that they drafted one and traded for the other. Same same.

- 1970vintage

It's not the same either way because of the roles they can play. even if Jake never becomes a top 6 player, he can easily be a good bottom 6 guys for the rest of his career. Can't say the same for Goldy.

I disagree, the "top 6" / "bottom 6" narrative has worn thin. Neither player has shown the effort that the coaching staff is looking for. It doesn't matter if they play 7 or 17 minutes.

I think JV has the better defensive game, thus he is better suited to being placed in defensive situations, freeing up the offensive players to play attacking minutes, than Goldobin is.

How's that?

Yeah, I just don't think that's true. I think it's a personality thing. Neither guy seems to really love playing hockey, the old fashioned way, which is what I think Green wants.

You think Goldobin is as defensively competant as Jake is? Just looking to clarify.

It’s up to the GM/Coach/Leaders to tell Jake to keep playing on the edge after that.

Let’s be honest, Jim/Willie/Henrik probably did the exact opposite of that and told him to settle down.

Yup. GM Pillow-biter and Coach No Interview are telling Frat-boy think about peoples feelings before pushing the envelope.

I hope the Canucks lose 7-1 tonight because they took so many undisciplined penalties. I doubt it will happen but it would be nice.
