Has anyone ever traded for a player with downside?

Not specifically targeted at you, just I dunno why so many people use this term, it's one of those mean-nothing phrases.

A 23 year old for a 27? We have Sutter at 3C.

I don't like JV all that much because he doesn't drop the mits and isn't tough but he will have 20 goals this year and then +25 goals for 3 or 4 seasons after that. Green should be told to back off and let him play 16+ minutes a game. Let him skate skate skate. If we trade JV his ceiling will be even higher on another team once he gets out of town. We will lose any trade is my bet.

I'd rather keep JV than Goldy. Imo he can at least play his role better. With Boeser potentially sitting out to start the year, give JV some ice time and see if he can figure it out.

Yeah I know he's getting to the age he should be figuring it out but I still just can't see a return for him that would outweigh the potential that he still has.

Goldy has some nice skills, but maybe it's time to move on.

I'm sure we'll see JB make some moves shortly.

I wonder if he'll be hesitant to move Goldy given that he just resigned him... My dream would be to ditch Schaller for scraps and move LE to the minors, which would leave us with 13 forwards(Assuming Gaudette is in the AHL) when Roussel goes on IR. Seems like it'd be enough to me.

If we were to keep Gaudette up in the NHL, I'd probably look at moving Goldy first, then Sutter ahead of JV

I am totally agreeing with that statement....just wasn't smart enough to think of that phrase!
He is going to get goals and can skate. Just keep Sutter away from him as a "mentor" and "leader".

Pittsburgh traded a player with downside and a third round pick for Bonino, Clandenning and a second.

Florida traded a player with downside and a fifth round pick for Jared McCann a second and a fourth round pick.

It isn't common, but it does happen occasionally.
