Yeah - let’s rely on an 18 year old with no experience playing with “men” to lead them to contention.

I saw good things from him in the two games this weekend - but not domination, not (other than his height) head and shoulders above the other 18/19 year olds out there.

Too bad he can’t go to Rockford - maybe he sticks in the Show because there would be little left for him to accomplish -or learn - in Saskatoon.

But expect as many gaffs as good plays from him in Chicago.

Where is there any mention of Dach leading them to contention. The post puts him in a 3C role and mentions sheltering his minutes. I don’t really disagree with the post, pending how Dach performs in the preseason.

I think Dach gets a 9 game evaluation with the big club, and then a decision is made whether he sticks for the year or goes back to junior.

Justsayin’ said: Agreed. Hawks aren't wasting a year so he can dominate in juniors. He is the x factor that is going to cause match up nightmares for other teams. Having a guy of his caliber in our lineup makes us a contender again. Without him not at all. Pretty sure the Hawks want to win now and think he can handle 15 minutes a night. He has all the tools and the heart

The post I responded to said he is the perfect 3rd line center, by implication, now (subject to being sheltered by the coaches).

Yeah, I think there is talk about Dach leading them to contention.

Sounds like he got frustrated against Toronto, making an effort to be physical with him and giving him no space. He will be a work in progress both physically and mentally, i guess the question is will he be effective as a 3rd line center or forward

She's 19, don't read into it too much, good for her to overcome the crowd supporting Serena

It is literally nothing:

Definitely the crowd,” she said with the laugh when asked what she had to overcome to ensure the second set didn’t slip through her fingers. “I know you guys wanted Serena to win, so I’m so sorry.

I missed Justsayin’s post. I don’t agree with that at all until we see him play against NHL competition.

On the post you quoted, it started with “if” and I took his statement as being his “skill set” is perfect for a 3C. Either way, you are right in saying let’s not put the cart before the horse.

The Hockey News has a recent article highlighting 5 Euro free agents who could make an impact this season. One of them is Anton Wedin.

Anton Wedin, LW, 26 (Chicago)
Wedin is a small power forward but one with tremendous speed and a good all-around skill set, allowing him to fill any role asked of him. The competition for one of the last winger spots in Chicago is a tight one, but even if he starts the season in the AHL, it won’t be long until he earns a call-up opportunity. Ryan Carpenter and Dominik Kubalik will make life challenging on the left side for Wedin, but he has the tools to be an effective fourth-line winger in the NHL.

Often forgotten in the conversation but Wedin could definitely make a run for the remaining forward spots in training camp. Candidates are looking like Dach, Sikura, Perlini, Kubalik, and Wedin.

This is not to mention dark horse prospects like Kurashev, Nylander, Hagel, Quenneville, Saarela, and Highmore. Although it is likely best he spend time in Rockford, I really like Kurashev as a lead candidate.

Yes, I read those comments by Derek King too.

Training camp, preseason and the first 9 regular season games should hopefully be enough to tell whether he’s ready for the show. Early indications seem the answer will lie in whether he’s mature enough mentally to handle the pressure. Physically speaking, I don’t think Saskatoon provides any real challenges for him anymore.

Yes very true...but the real decision making is from my couch via this message board!! Stan better have gotten the message (I don't have his direct line...yet) lol ...but it is fun to think about Dach doing well and adjusting enough to cause a lot of problems for other teams all year. We shall find out soon. Braves had him as an 18 year old all star so it should be awesome

I believe the inference was to the Canadian cultural stereotype of being painfully polite and apologetic. Even in victory, she was apologizing to the crowd for beating the athlete they were rooting for - that’s a Canadian thing to do.

I find it to be a good quality - we could use more deference and humility here in the States.

Article about the roles that Campbell and Kunitz are playing with coaching and mentoring the prospects. Nice to have one working with defensemen and another with forwards. They’re both behind the bench with King in Traverse City.

Training camp will certainly be interesting. 6 or so guys fighting for a couple spots. Who ever wins those spots will have to fight to stay there. I think Nylander makes the team to start, only because they’ll want to give him a chance and justify the Jokiharju deal.

The Bears might give us plenty to female dog about in the interim. Hoping they can right the ship next week against Denver.

Edit - Haven't seen the whole Browns vs Titans game but at least Mitch isn't the only young QB that has struggled mightily in week 1. Misery loves company.

If i was to make my best guess i would agree with your analysis here. As far as other prospects playing tbis season, in the final call to continue to receive playing time it is by necessity a case the player makes for staying as in "what have you done for me lately."

If you want to refer to the overiding team concern, it is to make the playoffs. To that end i do suggest in Dach there may be greater temptatiin to keep him over the others.

Although he undoubtably will have his up and downs, his development is the key. Does he keep getting better? Because be can provide a desirable type of game not matched by other prospects. .....not tailor made, but certainly a prescription you would write to better the team result.

And it is cool too when the internal pressure is most part that which Dach places upon himself; he is not expected to be a savior and he has a great teaching aid in the presence of Toews.

Re: others. I would choose to allow Boqvist to play at Rockford. There should be no rush.

As long as some fringe dmen are given opportunity and they perform well....the timing is possibly very good for Holm, Dahlstrom, Koekkoek since they 1) have NHL experience 2) have a defensive teamwide new system which is supposed to result in less goals against (for and against but emphasis on less against) and 3) Colliton is familar enough with each of these three.

Beaudin falls under the same category as Boqvist as far as whether he starts in Chicago opening night.

No one has said anything about whether two other dmen might step up and display a better game: Murphy and Gus. Both have incentive with Murphy as the main muscle guy on the blueline and Gus desiring a healthy new contract.

And i don't know what to expect in terms of how solid a contribution from the two slow guys: Maatte and Seabrook. Also is DeHahn really healthy from the get go?

It is a long season. There is the nine game trial. Let's wait at least through the exhibition season before chiming in again on the state of our roster/possible to likely scenarios. After all Colliton and Bowman will have a much better analysis then than they could offer today. Same applies to us.

Part of me thinks that sounds about right, i.e. Nylander and Perlini may be the defaulted forwards to nab the remaining spots. Nylander for the reason you stated and Perlini because of his “seniority” compared to the rest.

Another part of me thinks Colliton doesn’t care about these reasons and will take whoever is the best 200 foot players that will help the team compete in all zones to win.

At least I hope that’s the case. If so, Nylander and Perlini shouldn’t be viewed as front runners and would need to really earn these spots with commitment on both sides of the puck. This is why I feel Sikura, Kubalik, and even Highmore are better choices.

It is IMPERATIVE the roster fills out with guys sold out on the 200 foot game.
