Not a chance Todd! Would have to be a big overpay to get Bennett. I would rather buyout Stone & Frolik before letting the cap force a trade with this kid.
Personally, a 4-5 year deal like Compher would be a win win for the Flames & as was said on the other thread, give Bennett some financial security & he will still be 27-28 for his next contract. If Tre decided to sell Brodie for an underwhelming 2nd & 3rd round pick, this talk on cap issues would go away instantly. Would rather sell Brodie cheap, as we wont be able to afford him next year anyway, then sell Bennett at 23 while his value is lower. |

Can we resign 19 year old Sam Bennett at the price of 21 year old Sam Bennett?
How can we trade away 1 of 2 forwards we have that go into the corners? |

We can't. Especially after losing Hathaway. Trade Frolik/Stone and a pick for a ham sandwich if you have to....get the cap space and sign him to multi year contract. |

Any contract for Bennett should include a No Moustache Clause. Guy looks like a total loser. |

Trading Bennett would be a bad idea, with the Flames luck in the past when they have cut ties with players they thought that would never amount to anything they prosper in a new environment, players like Brett Hull, Martin St. Louis and one hell of a goaltender in Jean Sebastian Giguere. |

Sam Bennett is more Joe Colborne than Brett Hull, Doug Gilmour or Marty StLouis. |

Joe Colborne ? That's a really odd comparison. Can't think of two players less alike. Bennett will never be a star but he'll be a gritty middle six player for a long time. |

None of those players ever got a shot in Calgary. Bennett's played in twice as many games for the Flames as the three of them combined. He's played 300+ games. He is pretty much what he is at this point. In the history of the NHL how many players suddenly broke out to become stars after playing 300 games?

Yes they actually did get a shot in Calgary Hunkturd. I was simply stating the fact that Calgary gave up on players in the past and they turned out to have really good careers. BTW if you want to be corrected which you should douche canoe. He's played a total of 332 games. |

Spending half a season in the bottom six and then dumped isn't getting a legit shot. Spending parts of two seasons as the third goalie and then dumped isn't getting a legit shot. Everyone knew Hull would be a star, but they wanted to win the Cup.
If you're looking for corrections, maybe look up what a plus sign after a number means.

I couldn't help but think/hope we had found a Doug Gilmour clone after seeing his performance in the playoffs during his rookie season. Those turned out to be pretty lofty expectations.
I'm still a fan of Bennett and I think he's the type of player teams need to have in order to win a cup. It's looking like he's more Tomas Holmstrom than Doug Gilmour, but damn would I love to have a Holmstrom clone |

Two guys showed up in the playoffs last year in a soft Flames team. Smith and Bennett. One is gone and now Todd thinks they should throw the other out. After Arbitraion they will likely need 7 million for Bennett, Rittich and Mangiapane. Buyout Stone and giveaway Brodie for a pick would leave around 8.5 for Tkachuk. Enough? |

BTW if Flames are actually contemplating getting rid of Sam - The Ducks will take him off your hands in heartbeat...
Actually reminds me of a great Duck at least for the cup run in Travis Moen...
Damn that was a great line - Sammy Pahlsson / Robbie Neids and Moen.. |

Flames never developed Bennet correctly and haven't given him the chance to succeed...he's never going to score like he was projected with the shallow center depth of the flames... |

Common theme on flames boards this rope and tree thing...we know the flames got manhandled this year but step back from the ledge...or not... - oil90
A ledge... buddy you’re typing this as your team and lots of it’s supporters have been throwing themselves over the ledge. Your probably writing this as you fall. |

I really don't like the thought of Benny leaving unless it's for bringing back a decently skilled, grinding, RH forward.
We don't have any grit if he's gone outside of Hamonic (often injured) and Gio (old and too important to get injured).
Also I feel like saying he's the 4th best LW on the team isn't quite the best argument. If Flames don't trade for another RW and Frolik is almost all but gone soon, he could very well end up playing 2RW or 3RW.
Thanks for the articles over summer Todd! |
