I think he was kidding about 5x8.5 mil. He knows it would get matched so he's asking Bergevin for help getting Marner signed.
Hope this helps.

If I know Brock Boeser isn't offer sheet eligible maybe the Islanders might know it too, don't you think?

You would think so?

Douchebag? Hes a solid coach. Only so much he could do with that defense.
- Logan Reilly

The Pens managed somehow & won B2B cups. Didn’t have $7m coach just a coach who got it done. Imo Trotz is the best atm. Coach Q barely behind him.

Who’s sniffing around from Long Island? And are they aware that Boeser isn’t offer sheet eligible? Are you, Ek?

I love these Leaf fans who enjoy making fun of other struggling clubs since they have arrived at being a really good hockey team. They should stop being distracted with all the regular season success they have had and should be really pissed off at a douche bag of a coach (Babcock) who can’t get a team with all that talent passed the 1st round of the playoffs. Maybe if you guys want some success before your window of opportunity closes , fire the douche bag and promote the Marlies coach and watch your team take off.

Why hasn't nhl assistant gm bergevin signed marner to 8.5x5 for us yet?

You do know that the player actually has to accept the offer first though, right?

No money left for the Hawks ... they aren't in a position to make an offersheet for a spare beer vendor...

otoh maybe they could trade Patrick Kane to Arizona for nothing.

Yeah, Hawks have cap problems and Avs have a TON of space. They'd match any offer.

Unless it's a trade...

I don't know why many think interest in RFA's means an offer sheet. The Avs or Leafs could easily trade Rantanen or Marner for a package of warm bodies, picks and prospects.... I mean there is logic going the trade route... Just giving up either player for picks alone leaves those teams shorthanded...

I mean Anisimov, Perlini, Mitchell/Nylander, 1st & 2nd round picks in 2020 for Rantanen makes more sense for right now - or in the short term - than the potential compensation that would come back, depending on the contract..

I mean it's not likely from the Hawks perspective given all the RFA's the Hawks presently have that have star potential or at the very least will want significant raises... I mean since Strome came to Chicago he's been a PPG player and so has DeBrincat scoring 41 goals in only his 2nd season - those 2 combined will cost the Hawks 12-15 combined in their next contracts if they continue to progress..

So if there is any truth to this rumor and Bowman is interested in Rantanen then Bowman will have to be creative...

As much as I love the player, the Sens are not offer sheeting anyone until after next year's draft. And maybe the one after that. And definitely not until they sign Chabot and/or Brady T., for fear of reprisals. Stop with linking them to everyone just because they have cap space. They are stockpiling pics for now, and I'm happy with that
Or as happy as I can be with Eugene as an owner....

Hawks don't have the draft pick compensation for Rantanen and are $1 mil under the cap.
- ikeane

This goes for all of these RFA's being discussed.

Their rights can still be traded, and if I were a GM and I had an RFA I wasn't comfortable with signing I would rather trade the player than accept the compensation... Because you're getting nothing back that can help now if you let a guy like Rantanen or Marner walk for picks, so if you can get something back in return and some picks that would be the optimal situation....

I mean bringing in Rantanen from the Hawks perspective is a big commitment because the Hawks need future cap space for kids like Debrincat, Strome, Boqvist - not to mention surprises along the way so if Bowman were to pull a trade off like this there would have to be another deal in place like Seabrook to Florida or something to make it work...

But who knows, there is a reason why some of these RFA's signed with the teams whom hold their rights - especially Rantanen - when Colorado has plenty of space to get a deal done....

So with that said I wouldn't me shocked if there are many GM's out there sniffing around guys like Marner, Rantanen or Laine and proposing trades.... And I wouldn't be shocked if one of those guys are moved - just not via offer sheet but via trade.

To be fair, EK never said the Islanders were trying to offer sheet BB. They're just sniffing around.

The Hawks are now up against the cap so that isn't going to happen.

While I agree Chic ago is up against the cap. Stan could move saad , anismov and murphy out that would create enough room to not only sign him but also fit in 4 of their new signed players, kubalick, boqvist, Nylander

Well said. Nobody in chicago would be upset if Stan did acquire Rantanen, that kid is a stud. Stan would most likely have the salaries needed to make it work already in place to move.

Anyone right from Chicago's perspective giving up any 1st round picks doesnt help Colorado immediately and Chicago gets another future star.
