Jets fan here.
I’ve always liked the way Trouba played. Was excited when the jets drafted him. After a two seasons it was evident he was not going to be in Winnipeg for the long haul.

Anyway, Trouba’s pp totals were the result of Byfuglien missing 1/2 of last season. Jets pp was one of the tops in the league.
Trouba’s defensive play was aided big time by Josh Morrissey.

Rangers brass should be negotiating a contract around 7 mil per year. No more. He will compliment your top lhd.

Good luck this year and in the future. Rangers have an up and coming and exciting team in the making!

Right now our left side is pretty weak. Skjei better have a bounce back year. Trouba will be getting 1st unit PP time here so I'm thinking his numbers will be similar.

Need K'Andre here soon to pair up with Trouba. Be a monster 1st pairing

Hajek, Lindgren and Rykov, training camp is going to be quite interesting

It may be wishful thinking but I think an ideal scenario would be if they test out Kakko at center and he excels. That would give us the 1-2 punch at center we've been looking for and we have more than enough wingers to compensate for moving him to center

Tony D needs to do a Lablanc from San Jose contract if he wants to stick around, IMO

he's got no arbitration rights, his only hope for big money is an offer sheet that I doubt will be coming his way

- jimbro83

That contract is ridiculous. I'm not sure how his agent let him sign that

Yeah, I'm just not penciling them in as a 1st pair yet. Skjei really needs to step up.

Hajek was great when he got called up, also liked Lindgren's toughness when he played. Really know nothing about Rykov

It is the best bargain in the league.

Think that might be a bit much to ask a guy who hasn't played one NHL game yet. Let him get his feet wet playing wing and go from there

It's beyond a bargain its downright robbery. The guy had 56 points last year, the same as Evander Kane, William Karlsson and Josh Bailey who made $9M, $5.25M and $7M respectively (Salary not AAV) and more points than Hayes and Oshie. I get that he's at a different point in his career and wasn't going to command that kind of money but $1M is insane

Agreed I don't think it'll happen right out of training camp, if it happens at all, but if it happened mid year that would be nice. Would stop us from having to go out and find that 2C and can stop all the RNH talk who we obviously cannot afford at this point

I think this will be the next thing the league cracks down on. You can't prove it, but I wonder if there is some big 8 year extension already in place come January 1st. It defers a big cap hit a year AND basically gives you a 9 year contract. Cap circumvention at it's finest.

Trouba's going to be a solid player but have fun dealing with his agent. Don't be surprised if he waits to become a UFA next season.

it doesn't really make sense because he made it clear the Rangers were the only team he wanted to be traded to

This is the only thing that makes sense but how do you combat that? Also what if he gets hurt in the beginning of the year? Especially, god forbid, a serious injury. Huge risk by Lebanc for a player that really does not need a "prove it" year. He's already proved he's a good player in this league.

Hey Trouba,

How do you feel about 7M per? No? Okay, how do you feel about playing in Edmonton? 6.5M per to stay in NY it is then. Look forward to having you around.

It wouldn't reach that point anyway. If for some reason he refuses to sign, he will be traded by the deadline. No way Rangers just let him walk to UFA. But I am 99.999999999% sure it gets done prior to this meeting.

he must really love Joe Thornton

I think they said to him we have to give Thornton the rest of our cap space, but it's definitely his final season and we will take care of you with a real extension January 1st

He will sign in New York but unfortunately your team has inherited a problem child. Ok that’s not fair I know, realistically you’ve inherited an agent who isn’t well respected and has a history of holdouts that produce bad contracts (Kyle Turris...).
Anything over 7 per is an overpayment.

Yeah, I don't see what's in it for him. Let's just pretend that the Sharks said they would give him a 8 yr extension for 6 AAV January 1st and there was a handshake agreement. If he did get hurt or just for whatever reason became bad, there is no recourse for him. I guess he could try suing the Sharks, but that could get messy with an admission both sides circumvented the cap, and you know he'd probably get blackballed from the league.

The only thing that I could see from his side, is that some team would give him a 2 million contract worst case scenario. That's still way less than the 3-4 million he shoulda got as a bridge.

If he got $7.5 is that $500k really a killer? No, so I would be fine with it

Well lets just hope they use his contract as a comparable in Buch's arbitration

I think Thornton has nothing to do with this. In 1 year, the Sharks get Melker Karlsson, Brendan Dillon, and the Paul Martin buyout all off the books. They will have some guys to resign and I could see them bringing Dillon back.

I think they are still stuck with Martin Jones for at least 2 more years, but in 1 year a buyout becoming slightly more palatable. They don't have any good picks for seemingly until Haley's Comet comes by again so I have no idea how they would ever get rid of him.

they have 5 million in cap space after Lablanc's contract and they still have to sign Thornton, I actually think it has everything to do with it, unless they are giving Joe 2 million and Marleau 2 million

Yeah, I think it is likely going to be closer to $8 million per to get him wrapped up for 7 years, especially with the way salaries are escalating right now. That's what I am expecting. Anything beneath that will be a bonus for me.

Not saying I love that number, but just think that's what it's going to be.
