I wonder if they are pushing the deal off to make it appear less urgent that they need to shed money. I'm sure most teams in the know already figure they are in a vulnerable spot regarding any deal for Namestnikov, Shattenkirk, Smith etc.
I really would not mind them packaging picks with a player or two to get rid of those contracts. I'm more inclined to hope they keep Shattenkirk but who knows what will happen? |

Us fans know the cap situation for every team, so it stands to make sense that the GMs know as well. NYR is hopefully waiting for best offer |
|
|
|
More than likely, they're waiting for a reasonable offer on Shattenkirk. Waiting to see if he regains good form is likely to backfire on them. If he does, it builds value; if he doesn't, it makes things worse. Let somebody who needs a RD assume the risk. |

So... am I dumb here, but I thought the Trouba deal was practically in the books when the trade happened. Is this starting to become a worst case scenario? |

with a slow week in sports ,no baseball till fri., nba lotto signings about done ,
MAybe we get lucky and Gorts takes back page with a flurry of RFA signings ,followed by a flurry of sell off deals to get cap comp from the rfa signings ..
and then theres the coup de grace ...
TRADE krieder + what it takes to get the 1a center to support Mika & not burden the youth from stumbling or regressing
In play I M O other than Kreider +picks are Lias A. ,Lindgren ,Keane ,Fast
Strome Names ,some of them may get pkg'd to get Shatty ,Smith off the blue line
A center Of top talent to help share the load with Mika .
Brassard ,Boyle represent barely a 2nd line capability ,if we dont get centered we could get gutted down the middle , the #1 position in game is center ... |

I find it very comforting that this team next yr will be comprised of mostly
3rd yr players Chytl howden Andersen ..etc
2nd yr players Kravtov Kakko Fox..etc
1st yr players Lundkquist Miller ...etc
then we have vets Like Shey ,Trouba Mika Buchny Fast ...etc
who knows whats coming or going to upgrade team
a great nucleus with Hanks last yr should be special
maybe a cup?at least a run
gonna be great watching again after the 2 season dark age |

dont add, just subtract
we need to get rid of 8 million in cap, that's only priority right now |

No its just part of the process. They already have something in place for 7 years at $7.5-8.
It is more about the details like NMC/NTC. It should get done. Would be shocked if it did not |

I hope Trouba can repeat his 50 pt performance, but I worry he will regress to his career averages. Maybe just having some elite young forwards will pad his stat total. |

last year seems to be the first year that Winnipeg used him a lot on powerplay
he went from 17 power play assists total his first 5 years in the league to 15 last year
very interesting to see what the plan is moving forward
every right handed defenseman we have right now, Trouba, Shatty, DeAngelo, Fox, seems like a guy who should play the powerplay |

Why is his 50 point season not a sign of a player on the rise? His shooting % has been consistent each year and his assists basically doubled from the previous year which was shortened to 55 games.
Here are the numbers. He just looks like a young player figuring it out. I expect a repeat year or even better since he's the top guy now.

Hoping you are right. I always give pause when a guy gets a huge jump in numbers. I'm hoping that maybe he will have a Zib like incline. |

he no longer has Byfuglien ahead of him on the right side on the powerplay too |

That is a really good point. Still though, I'm going to temper my expectations and say 35-40 would be a good year. That would still be his 2nd highest total for his career. |

Jets fan here.
I’ve always liked the way Trouba played. Was excited when the jets drafted him. After a two seasons it was evident he was not going to be in Winnipeg for the long haul.
Anyway, Trouba’s pp totals were the result of Byfuglien missing 1/2 of last season. Jets pp was one of the tops in the league.
Trouba’s defensive play was aided big time by Josh Morrissey.
Rangers brass should be negotiating a contract around 7 mil per year. No more. He will compliment your top lhd.
Good luck this year and in the future. Rangers have an up and coming and exciting team in the making! |

as much as a spezza ,brasard boyle could be helpful, its way short of what we need to NOT load Mikas plate too full, he may try taking the load on but is along season & now P O's are a factor we hope .A top 1 a type center I. E . RNH in edm. with team in flux out west maybe a pkg of Krieds Lias Georgiev,Shatty 1/2 price to qb edm,PP or Smith as 2 way D L wing+ maybe a Keane or another D prospect not of the top 3 or 4 i can think of ,ANyway i hope with no baseball till fri Gorts takes the back pages & nhl by storm with rfa signings & deals to get the center & get cap friendly out of whats outlined above they have got to see the chance to fill alot of holes and not take on a lot of $$$,or somewhere else where we over pay but we have the pieces in depth & need to shed older dead weight like shatty/smith
If Not an RN H ? who is an option with talented up & coming centers we can over pay
to get what we need most ... a top center to match Mika |

With Fox in Hartford. I think with guys like Hajek and Fox we are penciling them in to be full time starters but they will likely have some hiccups along the way. Combine that with Shatty's injury history the past 2 years and I think it's feasible that we have both him and ADA on the roster. That being said, if we can get rid of Shatty's contract I'm all for it. I do not want to move ADA unless the return is substantial |

Tony D needs to do a Lablanc from San Jose contract if he wants to stick around, IMO
he's got no arbitration rights, his only hope for big money is an offer sheet that I doubt will be coming his way |
