Yeah, he was one of the very few that has no clauses whatsoever. Especially a player of his caliber

Isn't it amazing? What seemed like a sure dynasty might wind up with 0 cups and a huge cap hell coming. If Hedman starts declining, their defense might be non existent in a couple seasons. Hedman is 28, not out of the realm of possibility

I'd say Hedman has another 4 years of great hockey left in him, assuming no more major injuries. 28 is pretty much right smack in the middle of most guy's prime.

Those are a lot of tough minutes he's already had. He's been in the league 10 years now right? It's not like McD is bad now, but he's lost a step. I think Hedman has been a bit healthier, but at some point he's going to slow down. It may be sooner than people expect. I expect since he still plays a ton of pp his offense will stay the same, but he might become fairly average on the other end.

Two years less then Tanevs

Seems like the GMs did a much better job of avoiding crazy money deal so far this summer. Nothing is that outlandish. Hayes deal has been beaten like a dead horse, but I don’t think that one was even that bad

Sup boys... Yeah didn't realize we have a 3.9 cap hit from Girardi this season... Man once that Hank, Staal, Shattenkirk, and Smith contract are off in the books in 2 years we'll be in great shape!

Hey Nicky!

Yep. In two years I believe they’ll be division winner worthy and then the fun should start for a decade or so

I’m excited brotha. The group has a better chance at the cup. Much more dynamic players in it. The old group was more lunch pail and it only took them so far

Teams on the decline/getting old too, ie- the Caps/Pens/Bruins.

I’ll be the cocky basterd around here, idgaf

He's been here for a long time, funny thing was in the first few years he was on here he was not like that. At some point he took on that persona, maybe for attention or just wanting to stand out.

yeah, for me personally that was the most frustrating part about Tom, trying to get him back to the way he used to be

something just snapped there

if the Rangers buyout Strome and/or Nam, that will make it perfectly clear they couldn't get a mid round pick for them
- jimbro83

I agree 100% Jim, as I have mentioned their difficulty to part with three in key in Namestnikov, Shatty, and Smith. No teams are going to give up near equal value to a cap strapped team trying to part with high capped players, yet alone some who have not lived up to their contract's pay.

It's not only the cap strapped Rangers being pressed to create cap space, who are finding it hard to complete any trades. It's a league wide issue among those teams forced to create cap relief. Look alone at three trades that went down as proof, with the returns being minimal for those who moved the cap space, or new additional cap it would have required to re-sign their player.

(1) The Rangers steal of Trouba from the cap strapped Jets, with them needing to sign at that time 15 total pro roster UFA's & RFA's, including Laine and Connor for two others besides Trouba.
(2) The 3 weeks delay in the Rangers finally completing the trade of Vesey to Buffalo, until they decided that same very morning of July 1st to go all in on the bidding war to sign Panarin. That forced Gorton to give in, and accept only a 3rd Round Pick in exchange for Vesey.
(3) The Devils steal of Subban from the Preds for two d'men in Santini and Davies, along with two draft picks, with the Devils being the only team willing to pick up Subban's full $9M per his deal's remaining length. The Preds were forced to rid of Subban's $9M mainly to significantly improve their playoff lacking offensive production through trades &/or free agency, which they later did in part by signing Duchene. They also needed to help insure there would be cap space next June to extend potential UFA d'man in Roman Josi from his $4M expiring then.
