yep, it's August 7th, right at the end of the 48 hour buyout window and they haven't been able to make any trades
- jimbro83

Still wonder if adding maybe a 3rd to one of those guys would help. I'm ok with not stocking up on draft picks next year

yeah but the problem with this is, because you didn't understand the conversation, the Rangers will trade Strome, wont have to buy him out and you will gloat about it
- jimbro83

I understood the conversation, just didn’t understand why it was a conversation if that makes sense haha

Next year is a DEEEEEEEP draft. I wouldn’t be so quick to get rid of picks for next year.

Would you add a 1st if you could trade Staal right now for no cap back?

Well 3rd rounders wouldn't bother me too much. Also if the team isn't doing as well as we thought, could easily recoup those at the TDL

alright, one more time

desperation, August 7th, they are completely incapable of pulling off any trade to create cap space, buyout period is closing

it was pointed out that Ryan Strome is the most painless buyout

that's all that happened

Agreed I think Smith and Nam would be the two main candidates for a buyout if it were to come to that, but again I think Nam is tradeable. I'd rather not buyout anyone but I think Smith could be tough to trade and I do think he needs to go one way or another. I can see a bounce back year for Shatty which would give him some trade value, I don't see that for Smith
- SkjeiStadium

Staals buyout number is the best for them right now, they save decent amounts on both the next two years..unless I just read it wrong which is entirely possible it creates room for all of kids too, which I don’t think gets brought up enough. We have two guys clogging up the back end

I see utilizating Smith as the 13th forward still, he is fine there imo. As opposed to a buy out I mean

I like Ferland just didn’t see a fit with the Rangers, agree that’s a contract they’ll probably regret in a few years

That's actually a really tough question to answer. Everyone's gut reaction is no way, then you remember how getting rid of Staal would not only help the cap, but get rid of the log jam.

Doesn’t Shattenkirk offer more relief this year though?

They're trying to make all the bad deals* this summer

Fixed it

I would've liked Miller but not at the cost of a 1st

If they sign him for longer than like four years and a higher AAV than maybe $4.5M then I'd say that's atrocious

edit: I hadn't even realized they didn't sign Boeser yet. That's.......interesting

I probably would, as long as it was protected for next year. It frees up a ton of cap, plus it gives Hajek or Lindgren a chance to be a starter

I would do it, but I have serious doubts Rangers will

Quinn gave him more minutes than AV did his last two years

I am all for buying out Marc Staal though

At that point too, you'd be close enough to the cap that you could wait until there is an injury in the preseason or something to dangle Names out as trade bait. You'd basically make your cap problem almost vanish instantly.

I was 100% on team no buyout anyone as recently as April. Getting Kakko changed that. Without Kakko, there is no Trouba, and maybe not even Panarin. As they said in the movie Draft Day, we live in a different world now.
