we are just pointing out that his buyout is ridiculously low, every single one of us would rather trade him than buy him out, I assure you
- jimbro83

Basically this. You almost wipe out his entire cap hit. And no jump in year 2 like others

I just don’t get why anyone would bring it up. It’s like saying, hey we would buyout Fast. Why? Bc it would save us money. Oo, trade him? Ya, but we could buy him out. Oo, but why not just trade him? Oo, bc we could save almost his whole cap hit. Oo, so instead of trading him, we’ll buy him out to save almost his full cap hit? Ya. Oo, I get it now.

The problem is, you have to have a trading partner to make that happen. You have to be cap compliant at the beginning of the season. So if someone right now offered you a 6th for Strome, would you take it? It may or may not be the best offer you receive in the next month. The buyout window is finite. So basically, your hand might be forced. If our hand is forced, Strome is easily the best buyout option. It's not close.

I think people are just bored and laying out all the options to free up space. You also have to consider that there needs to be another side to the trade. This is why it drives me crazy when at the draft a team picks someone at lets say 9 who was ranked 12 and people yell that they should have traded down. A lot of times someone in the 10-12 range is not interested in moving up. I agree that Strome and Nam should be tradeable and that is preferential to buying them out, but nothing has happened with this team since signing Panarin so you can only say "buyout Smith/Shatty and trade Nam" so many times

I think you are missing the point. Talking about if there is no trade partner. Its an option. The 1st priority is a trade

Full disclosure: I don't want any buyout unless its completely necessary like down to the last minute.

Strome is the last player I’d want bought out or traded of the cap dump potential guys. Last resort for me.

yep, it's August 7th, right at the end of the 48 hour buyout window and they haven't been able to make any trades

Agreed I think Smith and Nam would be the two main candidates for a buyout if it were to come to that, but again I think Nam is tradeable. I'd rather not buyout anyone but I think Smith could be tough to trade and I do think he needs to go one way or another. I can see a bounce back year for Shatty which would give him some trade value, I don't see that for Smith

So instead of getting rid of his entire cap hit plus getting a 6th, you’d buy him out for only part of his cap hit? Makes sense.

yeah, I agree, I think teams see that we are in a crunch and aren't going to be too interested in helping us out
- jimbro83

It's not as cut throught as we think. All the GMs in league know full well the situations of the others, but they also know that they will be in same spot sooner than later. They definitely take advantage of situations, but don't want to rake other teams over the coals either, knowing full well that they might need trade partners one day as well when they are in a pinch

That's the whole issue right there. I'm shocked though that Smith wasn't already bought out. That one seemed like a slam dunk. Unless there really were people kicking the tires on him.

Somewhat but no. We have a guy making 3 million dollars, that could start the season as our 2C, but instead we’re talking about what his buyout would be?

well, the first buyout period, they didn't know if they were getting Panarin, and if they didn't, really there wouldn't be a reason to buy out anyone

I don’t want buyouts, even for Smith and Shattenkirk. Retain as much money as we need to to get rid of them and trade Nam.

yeah but the problem with this is, because you didn't understand the conversation, the Rangers will trade Strome, wont have to buy him out and you will gloat about it

So we can only buyout 1 player correct? Can’t buy out both Smith and Shattenkirk? Has to be 1 or the other?
