Penguins BIG Interest in Anton Stralman Along these same lines...look for the Lightning to try and make a trade for a D-man in the coming weeks...more on that in a bit

Why do the Pens need another soft RHD (is Schultz being traded?), whose best years are way behind him, and how can they afford him anyway given their lack of cap room and several RFAs they apparently intend to re-sign?

Otherwise it makes perfect sense.

Then again, never discount HOFGM Jim Rutherford's capability to do something totally pointless or detrimental.

Current Gardiner and Stralman Pens rumors suggests that they're looking to swap Shultz's 1yr commitment for term. Just from a asset mgmt prospective this is a very smart approach, and should have been incorporated into their mgmt structure yrs ago. Bringing in one of these or similar type of players as Gardiner/Stralman that measure up pretty close in terms of output and financial term for free and turning Shultz into additional pick/prospect/player and/or combo of those couldn't be a better gameplan for the start of the offseason. Worst case is subbing in a new top 4 d-man and using Shultz directly (most likely not due to his salary) or indirectly turning the assets in a that trade to combo with the jettison JJ move.

(frank) Jim Rutherford, I've been a fan all my life, can't stand watching his mismanagement. I saw the Pens win 5 cups in my lifetime. I'm done, (frank) you NHL and Jim

JJ of course should never play another game for Pittsburgh, and if moves along these lines help make that happen then by all means go for it.

This stuff doesn't both me that much, but when Rutherford signs a useless turd like Wayne Simmonds to a 4-year deal because "pushback" then I'm out the door too.
