Here come the overreactions in 3....2....1 - arichardson22
I don’t love it. In fact, I thought he was pretty awful when he was healthy. But if he can have a positive influence on Hart I’m fine. Certainly not going to make a stink over 1 year at $2 million. But if he gets hurt........ |

That s the question. The only guy I wanted was Reimer and who knows if he would be available. - ravishingone
The might have been able to trade for Reimer but I got the feeling they were hoping he gets bought out and then make him an offer
But who knows with Florida and goalies right now
Are they getting bob
Is Luongo going on ltir or retiring
Lot of balls in the air there |

He was actually pretty solid when healthy. The "when healthy" is the issue |

Well we got Elliott as our backup. Hopefully without a starters workload he can hold up but I'm nervous if Hart goes down. And we will also need to find another backup next season - bulet13
I have faith that sandstrom will be able to impress during camp and if elliot goes down he can be a viable option as backup. |

If he can stay healthy I am fine with it. - MBFlyerfan
I honestly didn't think it was a gamble Fletcher would take.
I like Elliot and hope he stays healthy. More importantly, hope Hart stays healthy, lol. |

As you say, I have no issue at all with it if he can stay out of the infirmary.. |

Exactly, the best of the rest in UFA goalie category below 4 million is not markedly better then Elliott.

It’s a good signing at a favorable cap number, as long as Moose can stay healthy. Most of his injuries likely came from overuse. Assuming Hart starts 50-55 games, Elliott should be fine with a workload of 27-32 games. |

I thought the plan was to move Ghost to the wing... - JW98FlyerFan
That doesn't necessarily mean that this needs to get done anytime soon. It's a 3 liner... He doesn't have to be a rock-star. They could wait until after see if a prospect is ready for the jump to the NHL. If not trade Ghost and/or Hagg for a mid-tier winger (hopefully you get at least a 2 liner for Ghost, 3 liner for Hagg). Matching salaries.

Yes! Words of rational wisdom. He is a good deal at 2m if healthy. I would hope the Flyers did due diligence to confirm he is healthy. Plus this means we didn’t sign Talbot! That guy wanted too much for his horrendous play of late. |

I'm not an expert on the cap and IR/LTIR... What if he gets hurt? He goes on IR - which removes the 2M from the cap (days he's gone). And, they can move an AHL goalie (less cap hit for the games brought up) up to back Hart. The backup won't have too many starts, and the staff will play him versus the lower ranked teams. |

Not a bad signing really of Elliot to back up, 1 year at 2 mil.
My feeling is his injuries were as much overuse as anything else which shouldn't be the case in this new role.
Im sure the normal cast of haters will show up soon with their "fletcher is a moran!" rants but whatever. |

That's a good point and I agree. We played him far too often last year without a break. I'd be ok with the split you mention with the hope that a) Elliott and Hart stay healthy as if Hart goes down and we need to ride Elliott he will prob get hurt b) Elliott can stay sharp with sporadic starts. We need him to play well when called upon and not just spell hart as a sieve. |

How much was Talbot looking for? He fell off the radar so fast I assumed he was looking for crazy money. |

Who knows? Might have been too much money, or too much term. Or perhaps they felt Talbot was shot. |

That's out of left field. Elliott played well when he was healthy. His play was one of the reasons why Talbot saw very little action.

With Elliott it's not a matter of if he will get hurt, it's when.
Doesn't make much sense to go down this road again. |

First of all placing a player on LTIR does not remove a players cap hit from the cap. He still counts the same as any other player. It depends on where the Flyers wind up in relation to the upper limit as to whether he goes on IR or LTIR.
