I'd take a chance on Talbot if the cost is reasonable. Edm is a tough place to play making him ripe for a rebound. At least they're not spending assets for him and he might be a legit no. 1. |

Talbots last 2 seasons have been below NHL average so I would not go beyond 1 year with a max AAV of 1mm. |

He wont sign for that. 1 year gives him no time to prove himself, especially if BSD is the starter. He may sign for a year but he will want more than 1mm |

Any goalie hoping to resurrect his role as a starting goalie would have interest in Calgary on a 1 year deal. Good team, good D and BSD is an unproven starter in front of you. Talbot could get 40 plus starts in Calgary if he played well and BSD struggles. |

As opposed to the train wreck the flames displayed in the playoffs at every level except goaltending. Talbot let's in those early first shots that take a team out of it... Sign way suckers... |

Another early first round exit will most likely cost BT his job. If I were him there's no way in hell I'm risking the season by bringing in another project goalie to pair with an unproven starter.
What makes Talbot any better than Mason, Elliott, Mrazek, and all the other marginal goaltenders available? Most of his stats came from his time as a backup, he has been mediocre as a starter.
Varlamov is the only UFA goalie I would go for. If I was unable to land Varly I would look to the trade market. |

Didn't we try this experiment?
This sounds like the exact same argument presented when we signed Elliott? |

I here you and don't disagree but....
Varlamov wont come cheap and if you sign him you would need a backup under 1mm a year. That would mean bye bye BSD if we sign Varly. |

I like this move on a short term, low money deal. A 2 year $1.5M AAV would be fine. Come on people the best part would be awesome to see Talbot stonewall Edmonton.
I would rather have a guy that's out there to prove himself, that has preformed in a starters role and a guy that is super motivated to make the Oilers look bad.
I don't mind Varlamov but I think there are too many teams looking for help in the net and someone is going to over pay him for next year.

Finding a tier 1 goaltender comes down to two things; 1) luck and 2) luck. The Flames have drafted a number of top level prospects form Gilles to Parsons and Macdonald, all with the same result. Time for Kiprusoff to visit the Saddledome and remove the hex. |

Why? It shouldn't be too difficult to sign Rittich to a 2 year bridge. Varlamov would probably sign at around 5 mill for 3 years.
We arent in cap hell like some other teams, If BT can't figure out how to clear a few million in cap space for a legit starter then maybe he should be losing his job...
Brodie and Frolik are both very tradeable assets we can deal to shed salary, plus we have guys on affordable ELC's ready to take NHL spots. |

Speaking of Froiik and Brodie, Vancouver just gave up a 1st rounder for a mediocre top 6 winger/ average top 9 talent.
If Miller can get a cap-strapped Lightning team a potential lottery pick then you have to think Fro and Brodie could fetch something decent

The situation couldn't be more different than it was for Elliott. The Flames traded for Elliot, and he was coming off a season where he led the league in save percentage.

Not much to be fair, but Varly will cost way too much and would only become an option with both Frolik and Brody we out the door. How likely is that? |

Wouldn't sign Talbot personally, would rather target Mrazek, the guy is still young, is a capable goalie and would make a decent tandem with Rittich. Question will be price.

Hmmmm......
Lazar and MCDonald not given offers. - geta02it
Interesting, don't know that it' shocking (Lazar) - sadly that 2nd rounder could have been Formenton or Comtois... or any number of guys that followed that haven't panned out...lol |

Not shocking at all for Lazar. They would have had to qualify him at a 5% raise and he was on a one way getting over 1 million last year. Wherever he signs it'll be a two way with his NHL salary probably not much over minimum.
