great write up Ben... I agree with pretty much all you said although Lee is probably going to get 7 mill a year based on his goals last few years and Captain. |

Nice work Ben! I think it's a fair contract. I'm a fan of shorter contracts but you really cannot complain much on this one. I'm hoping Lee does not get 7 Mill. I really like Lee but 7 Mill seems a heck of a lot for Lee. |

With how FA's get overpaid and team had NO C depth, very fair deal knowing that Nelly had his best & consistent season under Trotz, now both will be here for a while |

I could live with 5 years at the same 36 for Lee. |

Any suggestions which player contract you can compare Brock's to? A player that has signed within the past year or so. |

He probably would have gotten more on the open market. |

Good comparison is Backland/Henrique/Little

the deal is works well with keeping nelson as #2 center for the next 3-4 years and than drops to #3 center in the remaining years. so the isles have 3 years to develop a #2 center in BP who will come in at a cheap cap hit |

5 million for me was the right number. I’m not big on guys who their career years on the last year of their contract. Nelson is an average 2nd line player. This is a bit of an overpayment. Bailey got less last year |

Probably a million more per year over payment but necessary for shorter term. |

Sure, I get that...but he's coming off a one-year deal, so the last year is also the first year! The way I see it, Lou gave Nelson a one-year "prove it and show me what you're worth" contract. Nelson went out and earned what he got. I'd be good with this one even if center wasn't a position of desperate need for the Isles. Given that he probably could have squeezed them for a little more since there's no one to replace him, I think the Isles got this one kind of cheap. |

Wouldn't be surprised to see $7M for Lee either, I just think he may have a hard time arguing he's worth $1M more than Nelson as a winger who is a year older. Like you said though, obviously goal scoring is a factor too, so who knows. |

Yeah, I suppose that's the price to pay for keeping it at a six-year term. I'd guess Lee's AAV really depends on the term as well. If it's only a five or six-year deal, probably up around $7M but if it's extended for longer the AAV likely drops into the 6's. |

At the very least, Nelson's camp probably used that as an argument in negotiations to drive the price up, whether it's true or not. |

Sure I would love 4 years deals for Nelson and Lee but that's not happening. |
