IF CBJ wins the Cup, will Panarin and Bob decide to resign with CBJ ?
- StutzBlackhawk

I thought about that too...I think they can test the market and if it doesn't fit team or money bags or combination thereof for them, who knows, they might decide.

Brock Nelson would be a good player to try to land I think. He might price himself out of our budget with his career season this year, but I think he would be a solid pickup.

Dzingel should be someone they talk to depending on the price, he could be a pick up they can afford.

Or maybe a Deryk Engelland on a cheaper 1 year deal to add some depth on D. The guy isn't young, but he led the Golden Knights in icetime through the first round. I say cheaper because I'd only do it if you can bury most of the $ on the deal.

Alternative cheap D-man pickup - Carl Gunnarsson. They guy can defend pretty well and could help fill a gap.

Or how about a minor deal with New Jersey to land Micro Mueller. Don't let his name fool you, he is 6 foot 3 and 210 lbs. 24 years old and can kill penalties and play pretty well on the back end.

If the Hawks end up going after a vet goalie...I'd kick the tires on Ryan Miller.

Any way Stan can get Foegele from Carolina?

No.

Gonna need the cap space soon and he's on an ELC.

Ok I am gonna start my first to last update on player rankings, dropping Podkolzin due to his production, until I find out there was an injury...
- wiz1901

Wiz, just visited your mock draft site and, yes, see Hawks choosing Cozens at #3 and Podkolzin going 4th. I don't mind that at all.

I see Bryam is going 12th and the 4th D chosen. Has his stock fallen that much? I thought he was rising in rankings.

If Carolina wins it does Stan get a day with the CUP?
- riozzo

There's only two ex Hawks left on the Canes... TT and TVR... and TVR was acquired from Vegas, technically.

Nelson and Dzingel would be good adds. Lots of teams are probably thinking the same thing so a bidding war for them could break out.

I think Engelland has been living in Vegas for a long time. I doubt if he wants to uproot the family at this stage in his career. I say he probably signs a team friendly deal with the Knights or retires.

Gunnarrsson seems to be injured alot recently. 25GP this season, 63GP and 56GP the previous 2 seasons. Don't think that's what the Hawks need as a steady top 4 defenseman.

What I saw in U18´s I liked Krebs, Newhook and Turcotte better than Cozens. I think Blackhawks are going to choose between Byram or Turcotte. That is my guess. Byram´s stock has to be rising and not falling.

I am preferring Turcotte or Krebs over Cozens at this point. While Cozens plays a heavier game, Turcotte and Krebs both play a better all-around game and give their all every shift and in every zone. It was mentioned before that Cozens may be more Kesler like while Turcotte is more Toews like. Give me the latter.

Not sure what a Krebs comparable is. Maybe a poor mans Bergeron? I'd be happy with a Danault type player.

Newhook would be a good choice if the Hawks are able to make a trade to gain another 1st rounder in the teens. His scouting report reads like a higher-end Sikura: small stature but willing to engage physically all over the ice, great vision and hockey sense, and strong defensively.

Zegras is worth a look as well with a mid/late teens pick. Similar game as Newhook. I read a scouting report (I think on Sportsnet.ca) that likened his passing and playmaking as Kane-esque. Even if he'll never be that good, it's a good indication of where those skills are at and what his potential is.

Possibly Boldy if that additional pick is in the early teens but he could also go in the 7-10 range.

Engelland would be great but he is from Vegas, so I assume he will just resign with them on the cheap.

Those are some good points. The one thing I wonder, are guys like Nelson/Dzingel going to get overpaid for production? Nelson for example, got about 15 minutes EV TOI per game and about 2.5 minutes of PP time per game. Would he get the same opportunity with Chicago or another team? I like him, but I'm also worried he will command more than he can live up to.

Engelland, I don't know his living/personal situation, but I think we've seen a lot of vets play away from their family at times for short term deals to extend their playing career. You might be right about what he will do, but I think it is possible.

Gunnarson is a guy I still like on a limited cap spend. You are right about him not playing a ton, but I also don't think the Hawks will spend to land a legit top 4, I think they will find a guy who is a 4b or 5. I.e. a guy that can kill penalties and defend, but slot in the bottom pair. Take some of those PK minutes like Sopel or Rozsival, but play somewhat more limited minutes.

I know its highlights but when you factor in size and speed and being more physical and a better defender. Boquist looks good but looks to be a OFF D and PP specialist. Bowen looks like he could be elite top 15 type # 1 D. Wiz what do you not like about him? he is just so patient with the puck and makes the defenders look lost.

I guess bowen has 1 more round in playoffs then the memorial cup.

If by chance the BJ's win the Cup, that will be the final piece to the Panarin question. He'll most definitely seek his BIG CITY/ BIG MONEY elsewhere. As stated by many, he'll end up in NY and play for the cash. No way he returns to Columbus IMO.

Roope Hintz, guy is ridiculous good. Heiskanen is a find too. Makar from the Aves is smooth, and Colorado is in the 4 hole at the draft so they are only going to get better.

IF CBJ wins the Cup, will Panarin and Bob decide to resign with CBJ ?
- StutzBlackhawk

Salary Cap says: NO

They have only 13 players signed for next year and no goalies with a cap hit of almost $50 mildo..

The combo of Duchene, Panarin, and Bobro could cost them around $25 mildo minimally.

That leaves 8-9 mil to sign 7 players; therefore only 1 for sure resigns, possibly two if they move additional salary...but no way do the 3 of them resign even if they wanted too..

rutsa ruk to the cbj's...they are in cap hell going into next year; some nice players are not returning...

Tyler Cameron: Hi, My REAL Name is…

It was November 2nd, 2017 when I posted my first blog here on Hockeybuzz under the name Justin Lowe.

231 blogs later, a lot has changed. The Hawks have had a lot of ups-and-downs and I know we're all hoping they are on the trend upwards.

Is this your actual name, or in like a year or 2 you're going to have another, actually guys my real name is slim shady

Give them a couple years. Gotta get Aho and Svechnikov signed soon.

Of course, having Pesce, Slavin and Teravainen all locked up for the next 5 years for less than $15 million combined is a big win.

You raise some good points. I think we agree that the Hawks could use a top 4 defenseman and a 3rd line forward or two. We'll see what Stan does this summer.
