I said it last summer/off-season....Leafs should have packaged combination of Sparks/Picard, Gardiner, 2019 pick and a prospect (Johnsson) to aquire a top 2 defender. With the Marlies coming off a Calder win, both goalies were regarded highly.
They did not do much besides signing Tavares this year and Marleau last year. Instead because of mgmt's inaction they lost 2 goalies (Mac and Picard) for nothing. They let all of their RFA's go into their final seasons without extensions and are now in a bit of cap dilema because all of them have met or exceeded expectations.
Both Dubas and Lou are to blame but Lou isnt here |

I’m sure everyone would be involved. What I’m saying is, if Babs crosses a line with Dubas like not playing the players he wants playing, and if Dubas feels Babcock isn’t respecting his wishes, then Babs gets fired. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Depends. Does Shannahan and the board agree? Firing the coach isn't a decision that the GM unilaterally gets to make. |

Because you said something doesnt mean they could have done it if they wanted to
you have to have someone willing to trade you that imaginary D you want

If they could have done that I think that they would have. Just because you want something to be a certain way doesn't mean it's possible, anyone older than 2 should know that. |

Ya, hopefully andersen is going through this down part of the season now instead of the playoffs. - bryant
They need to rest him. Unfortunately they can't, because Sparks can't stop a beachball. That's on Dubas |

Leafs allow too many shots on Freddy. Gotta start winning low scoring games instead of gunning all game. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Definitely need to tighten things up, or it will be over quickly against Boston |

That and GMs are acutely aware that the winner of a trade is the team that gets the best player. |

I think Babs is here for the duration guys. We don’t want to become the Oilers and have this young team adjusting to a new coach every second year. |

I don't get why Dubas didn't sign Marner to an 8 year 7 million dollar deal before the season started. He's obviously lost his chance. |

In what world does a coach get fired after consecutive seasons of vast improvement (other than this season slight improvement) .. this is the first year in which there’s expectations to move past the first round but you have to remember he’s coaching a team with a core of kids.. if they fire him this year or next it’s a mistake .. the only way that happens is if next year they completely come off the rails and miss the playoffs
Edit: and in my opinion that still might be a mistake |

So I'm all about temperance and avoiding knee-jerk reactions, it's just not as much fun for internet discussions.
That being said, I need to point out that while they have had two consecutive seasons that were each individually a huge improvement over the first season babcock coached, this season is not a significant improvement over last year, especially considering how much the team is supposed to have improved from a roster standpoint. |
