Ironically all it takes is the eye test to see how much Gudbranson and JJ suck.
- bulet13

All everyone female doges about when it comes to Gudbransson is his +/-

So if you hold that standard to a Defender and yet you still bash JJ you are an idiot. He has been + the last 3 months and is only at a -3 for the year. He has improved Drastically month after month since being here.

So why couldn't Gud make the same strides? I'm not going to say it happens over night or even by the end of this season. Honestly it may never happen...but you sort of have to give them a chance. He has played on 2 VERY TERRIBLE teams prior to coming to Pittsburgh. Honestly the Advance stats show he sucks while being on a bad team.. Thats why those stats are not the be all end all.

Neither is +/-.

Also for anyone else out there, I am way more critical of the Penguins than Ryan is. However Its about things that actually make sense and I don't just continuously find ways to bash someone within the organization even when talking about something or someone completely different.

I used to love coming to read what Ryan had to say. He used to actually dissect games, give decent analysis, not just using the overrated Advance Stats but also the "eye test" that everyone likes to call it.

His blogs anymore appear to be someone who writes blogs based off of the Google Updates he gets on his phone about the game and the advance stats that he finds on the internet. Wonder if he has actually watched a game this season at all?

Its our GMs fault really. And yeah Wilson went downhill for sure. Just gotta cheer on the team and hope for the best but from Rutherfords past (Carolina) he's good at getting teams going but can't seem to sustain it and makes bad moves. So it's worrisome.

NCAA All Stars with extra lines:

Johnny Hockey-Jack Eichel-Phil Kessel
Jake Guentzel-Joe Pavelski-Blake Wheeler
Kyle Connor-Paul Stastny-Cam Atkinson
Jaden Schwartz-Johnny Toews-Gustav Nyquist
Anders Lee-Kyle Turris-TJ Oshie

Wersenski-Trouba
Ghost-Faulk
Dumoulin-Niskanen
Parayko-McAvoy

Connor Hellebuyck
Ben Bishop
Take your pick of trash

Notes:

Tried to keep everyone in their natural positions. That's why I put Dumo over Parayko who's natural RD.

Team NCAA is fairly deep at LW, which lead to the exclusion of Max Pacioretty and to a lesser degree JVR. Go ahead and argue with me that either should be ahead of Anders Lee, you won't change my mind. Bit thin at center now that Pavelski and Stastny are declining and Kessler and Backes are no longer good NHL players. That fourth line would be a cycling nightmare. Real shut down power. Brady Tkachuk should be added to this sooner rather than later.

D's a bit short at LD, which allowed for a non-point producer like Dumo to jump into the bottom pairing. Not really what you want in an all star team. Suter and Shattenkirk aging out of their prime kind of hurts them here, but the top 4 is young and fun.

Goaltending is what kills this team. Helly's having a bad season but I put him at the one spot because he has a recent history of being way better and is young. Schneider and Quick not being good anymore kills this team. Ben Bishop is the second best goalie on this all star team, which is not ideal.

All in all, pretty much where I thought this team would be. Weird in between where the old guard is fading away and the new guys just aren't there yet. Not as competitive as the last time we did this. Will need to lean heavily on the top two lines and defense.

WHL team surprisingly not too strong

- Feds91Stammer

Still demonstrably better than the NCAA team I just put together, I think.

EDIT I'm very weirded out by the fact that when I clicked Sean Tierney's twitter link to the WAR Lineup Creator those lines I typed out were already booted up. (frank)ing algorithms are way too advanced these days...

And yeah, the WHL team has me beat by those numbers. Your top line and top pairing just smoke mine.

Yeah I edited my comment up top once I ran that lineup thing. Lines 2-4, pairings 2 and 3, and goaltending are pretty much identical but then your top line and top pairing just dominate me.

I don't get how my first pairing is so bad. Those are both stud D men.
