So 2 non-nhl players for Stone? Sens pass
Niku, Petan and a 1st for Stone should be close to getting it done.
I think Jets should be looking at second tier trades .....Hayes, Zucc, Nyquist etc
Keep our 1st and keep building. Stone is going to be too expensive

1st and Perreault (if Ottawa is not on his list of 5 teams )
Or
1st , Dano, and Petan |

So they don’t claim Dano for nothing but trade for him?
Dano is an average minor league player at best. |
|
|
|
Easier to say who the Jets won't give up for a rental
Roslovic
Vesalainen
Samberg
Niku
Which leaves the package to include:
A Roster player Lemieux or Appleton
A minor league D Green or Stanley
A throwaway Petan
A conditional first that we make the conference finals

Very high on Samberg!
Lemieux would be tough given he seems to be finally finding his place and we don’t have much grit at all.

there are so many 'ifs' to consider that we are not privy to when spitballing for trades, ie. Trouba and RFA upcoming contract talks. Who does chevy really want to have around as long term Jets depth?
It is scary to value a home-town kid. It puts a poopload of pressure on them from fans, family and internal pressure to perform. It doesn't always work out as well as Ryan Smyth playing for his Oilers...
If Stone is the target and we are trying to come up with a rental value for him it will be somewhere around Vesaleinen and a 1st round pick, or Stanley/Appleton/Lemieux and a 1st, depending on who Ottawa prefers. I don't think Niku will be available and I don't think Ottawa would be searching for offense first defensemen, but if they are it could be Niku straight up. |
|
|
|
-first rounder
-Appleton or Comrie
-Stanley or Gustafson
-Petan
Ottawa fans wont like this as they want a bigger name but this is fair. |

also - are we hoping/planning to sign Stone long-term or as a rental? It impacts who we might make available. |

Stall could land Minny a 1st or a 2nd and very good prospect.

Same as Stasny trade. Mid level prospect and a first. |

As a sens fan, converted to winnipeg fan, no, most of those packages aren't enough.
Honestly, the only package for either Stone or Duchene worth while from ottawa's perspective, from the Peg, is 1st and Vesalainen, otherwise there is no point in even listening. Comrie would be a good piece, but they already have a lots of young goalies they are high on, in Gustavsson, Hogberg, Daccord.
Having said this, there isn't a good reason for the jets to trade for either player without signing them. So that complicates things. With all the big contracts coming, they are going to have to walk away from someone. I personally would suggest Trouba. I've been watching jets for a little over a year, and see nothing special in him. He is certainly behind morrisey and byfuglien. So he should be the expendable pricey piece they can send, and get a serviceable Dman back.
As a rental 1st and Vesalainen. For either Stone or Duchene
As a signed player, 1st,vesa and trouba for stone or duchene and a cheap 2nd or 3rd pair guy like Harpur, Lajoie or Jaros. The sens would likely flip trouba for another 1st or 2nd elsewhere.
Sounds like an overpayment? Ask what you would want for scheifele, and that's about what the cost should be for duchene. And the same for stone would be Wheeler. 1 first line scoring winger, who leads the league yearly in takeaways, is as good defensively as you'll find. And has been doing this without top players giving him the puck. He has mostly been with White and Tkachuk, also with tierney a lot at the start. And duchene has been over a point per game for over a year now, on a losing terrible sens team. |

Ignoring all the Twitter BS and moving on to the question....
Stone . Just can't imagine this guy who already has such heart, not wanting to come here and play his ass off for his hometown. So he's got to be the preferred choice.
Roslovic .....or Perreault (plus Petan)
or
1st , player, and prospect = 1st, Petan, Comrie
Funny thing is Maurice basically said today ( when referring to Little ) that he is fine with the centers we currently have and didn't indicate a need for a center at the deadline.
I also like Zuccarello. Not so hot on Staal anymore.

Good post. I don't agree with your Wheeler and Scheif comparison though . Both are superior players ( and not UFA's) .

Jetsnation - I agree scheifele is better. But at the end of the day, the cost to acquire would be damn near the same. Stone or wheeler is negligible. All 4 are awesome players. Wheeler is a faster balls to the wall type player, but stone just finds a way to always be in the right spot, and make every other player better. I personally don't see why they are looking at stone. They have ehlers and connor on the left, and wheeler and laine on the right. Sure laine is a terrible hockey player who has an insane shot, but he should still be in the top 6. I see a better fit for duchene myself, long term. But I'd be happy if either player ends up in the peg, so I can still watch my favorite sens players, lol. If they all go, it'll only be chabot left basically! haha |

no one was paying the price tag for Duchene when Colorado made him available, most were surprised what Ottawa eventually gave up when he had been available for so long. You will not get nearly what you gave for him now as a rental. I understand your ask of Vessa of a first but I don't see you getting it from us or anyone ( Tolavanen and first from Nash or Valimaki and first from Calgary ) these are not happening. so what will you do when no one pays your price? take nothing and let him walk for free????? not a chance. You do not have the luxury of time on your side.
I have no problem with anyone's opinion, but Trouba is a first pairing D who is having a career year and is top 20 in the league for points on top of always being a great shut down D. there is no GM in the NHL that would trade him, plus a first plus Vesalainen for either Stone or Duchene no matter if they are signed.

for the record, I'll be the first to say I was wrong if Ottawa lands something I said wouldn't happen
