Why would he go on LTIR? He loves playing and he's healthy. - LeftCoaster
Because Leaf fans want him to. |

The only plausible move I see where he'd be willing to uproot his family is SJ taking him back for one last year. |

If they don't want him anymore.
Van and Tor should make a trade.
Marleau and Johnsson, STL 4th
for
Granlund and 2- 6th round picks. |

I had forgotten all about Jessie Blacker.
It would be easy to mock his 1-game NHL career, but that's still a helluva achievement. - Atomic Wedgie

Sounds familiar to a situation in Vancouver with a certain goalie |

Retirement, trade contract to Arizona with a 2nd rounder for a 7th rounder.
Or LTIR (Robidas Island)
Or...
I have asked a few journalists this, and never got a straight answer: 35+ applies to retirement. But does it apply to mutual termination of contract?
No mention of 35+ conditions in 2013 CBA. Very vague wording in 2005 CBA.
In any event, there are options. And as I stated up top, that contract was specifically structured for a reason. - Atomic Wedgie

I'm no CBA expert but I believe like Datsyuk's contract it goes on till it's over.
Which Arizona way overpaid to take on that contract. Move up 4 spots and give away a 2nd to Det. - manvanfan
So keep in mind this is a wild Wedgie theory, and there is a good chance I am wrong on this.
But...
I don't think they ever put Datsyuk on waivers (or Hossa) for purposes of mutual termination of contract. So they still have valid contracts, which count against cap.
As far as I know, 35+ rules are from 2005 CBA, which was written in 20 minutes, and has several holes in it.
Could mutual termination be a loophole?
I honestly don't know. |

All I'm saying is the contract was structured ro make walking away an option.
There's really no other conclusion you can draw. |

How about he's never won a Cup, the Leafs have a good team, he wants to play and win? |

Didn't Yotes GM say two days ago he may be heavy on an offer sheet? He would be the dumbest GM if he offer sheeted Matthews and then offered Leafs cap relief so they weren't up against the wall. |

Why would he retire, you're seriously grasping at whatever to fit your conspiracy theories. Give it up. The guy is a good player on a good team and he wants to win a Cup. He's not walking away from a million dollars because you think it's a good idea. |

He said he has a feeling there may be a few offer sheets this year so that is not tampering. He may want to bring Auston home |

Seems like a pretty key cog on in the room and the kids really like him. I agree he wants to win, if they do I guess there's a chance he does but I don't see it either. |
