What are you basing this on? I haven't seen anything that leads me to believe these guys would wine about who they play with.
I think a good reason to keep them together is because its working well enough. In Boston without last change they matched against one of the leagues top lines and scored twice. I don't see a need to separate them, there is more tinkering to be done in the middle 6, possibly a trade for 2c and some organic growth.
If I am Ehlers or Laine or (Roslovic, Lemieux, Appleton, younger player) and I see the bedrock of the team being changed it would take away from the certainty of my game. Teams need solid structure/foundation to build around and Scheif/Wheels are it right now. Little also plays a structured game, I think Lowry is there too, Copp does it but may lose his way without structure higher up the chain. For others on the team the solid play comes and goes game in/game out. Peak will come in April. |

something about Panarin that spooks me, I'd stick with Laine. |

Winnipeg better not pull an Edmonton, run Laine out of town with the fans and media frothing at the mouth about his attitude or play. If you force him out of town it will come back to haunt the Jets |

I am basing it on nothing, just my gut feeling and watching how close wheels and sheif are on and off the ice.
Although they are scoring they are outchanced and give up more shots on net then they create playing against the other teams top line.
it costs absolutely nothing to try them apart for 2-3 games. nothing!! why we can not at least try it makes no sense to me!! they can always be put back together.
27-55-29
81-18-26
or
85-55-29
27-18-26
81-7-28
again, to not try these for 2-3 games is not doing your job as a coach, all year I have heard "the Jets have another gear" is it not at least possible we are not hitting that gear because we haven't even tried tinkering with our own lines before we even consider a trade?

Wheeler and Scheifele want to win......I cannot imagine that they would stand in the way of being split up if it helped the team. |

Dude, I don't even...
Your theory - sorry - belief is that Paul Maurice is getting bullied by Wheeler and Scheifele, because they want to play together?
Now, I'm all for splitting them up to try and get line 2 going, but to suggest a Scheifele-Wheeler cabal is involved in this is reaching a bit, dontchathink?

to be clear, I am not saying they do not want to win but if they both believe the best chance to do so is playing together then yes, they wouldn't want to be split up.

So as a Toronto fan all I hear is about offer sheets and cap space.
I'm assuming it's a similar conversation in the Peg. How does it look? As fans do you think Myers walks? Trouba resigned? Laine traded?
My guess is Laine would be first out the door and likely Myers is allowed to walk away. Purely guesses on my part though! I just feel they like Connor more. |

I think "Bullied" is not the right words to use. I guess what I'm really saying is neither you or I knows what is going on in that room and neither Pomo or Wheels or Sheif would ever come out and say " ya, sheif and wheels don't want to be split up and will be pissed if they are"
all I said is this is my gut feeling and that putting all the blame on Maurice for not trying something different may not be entirely fair

We don't hear much about offer sheets here, don't see them happening for anybody in to be honest
Trouba more than likely will not sign here and that will lead to him being traded in the summer. Depending on the return of that trade may determine what they offer Myers. Will Myers sign a 2-3 deal here for 4-4.5 million per? don't know, that's all I'd give him but their are fans on here that would give more than that.
I can not imagine Laine being traded, I can see Laine signing a bridge deal but not a trade. Connor is well liked here but again, it will be very interesting to see what his ask is, I can not imagine the Jets offering more than the 6 mil per that Ehlers is now locked up on. |

I just can't see Wheeler & Scheifele making that kind of powerplay against Maurice. It doesn't make sense, especially given Wheeler's remarks about Maurice at All-Star weekend. It feels like there's a lot of respect for the coach, and I think Wheeler would, if anything, be reinforcing that in the dressing room, rather than usurping it.
Agree to disagree I guess. Sorry if my initial comment came across as aggressive. |

Know what ? - there's really not a single player I wanna get rid of ... we are at a point of tuning / optimizing
There are no Antropov's, Jokinen's, Burmistrov's, etc left, IMHO
Just a bunch of skilled hard working lads at various stages of development looking to establish themselves on the roster
And Laine ? ... bridge him for another 2 yrs and work with him ... DON'T F_CKIN TRADE HIM !!!
Now - we can't keep everyone and we always have a chance to improve the roster ... so for trade deadline --- 2C and LHD with minimal impact ... << yes, that's easier said than done >> |

Trouba is a RFA though. I don't know if he has arbitration rights or not. Just checked capfriendly and I do believe someone will need to be moved. My guess is Laine is the one. Purely a guess.
We will see. I'm interested in what it will look like. |

It was not a good time when the Flyers gave Weber that 14 year offer sheet. He was so happy signing it and thought he was out of here. When the Preds matched it he looked like he wanted to vomit, but he said rah rah stuff and acted like he wanted to be here all along. |

yes Trouba is an RFA but the Jets wont sign him to a one year deal that lets him walk for nothing, they'll trade him to a team that thinks they can sign him to a long term deal, my guess's are Detroit, NYR, or Florida

Absolutely not! You guys would be crazy to do that. The upside on Laine is huge; Panarin is what he is already - which is still an elite hockey player - but Laine IMO will be better.
Also, Panarin seems to have a self centred attitude - all about him, plus he would never choose to play in Winnipeg, or likely anywhere in Canada for that matter.

I agree - you can't trade Laine. He's getting a hard time right now. As fans we just need to acknowledge that he is young and has many areas of his game to improve on. Maybe he will, maybe he won't but you can't replace the elite level scoring he brings to the table. Jets just need to make sure that they don't overpay for this.

No, I'm not sure Winnipeg would appeal to him any more than Columbus.
As a fan, I have to remind myself that Laine is only 20. Scheifele at that age was in his first full Year and he was getting pushed all over the ice. I do remember the term "Bambi on ice" being thrown around. Scheifele really started to show what he can do at 22, so I think we need to pump the breaks on the whole Laine is getting traded.
Bridge him and see what he can accomplish in the next 2 years. I would like to see him show a little more motivation towards off season training a la Scheifele. Maybe go to the Roberts camp...or at least skate during the Summer. |

On Laine: he does not get traded. Not a chance. He's not playing great hockey right now, but that's a shot you don't trade away. Remember a few years ago when Ovi's plus/minus was -284? Ok well it wasn't THAT bad, but it was absurd for a 30-40-50-60(?) goal scorer. Laine stays, but on a bridge deal to prove he's worth more. Chevy will offer him 6Mx8 to see if he bites, but won't happen.
On Trouba: he WILL get traded. But Chevy will insist to get a similar D in return who wants to play in Winnipeg. Maybe early July, maybe next deadline. But there's only 1 more shot at a forced RFA contract before he can walk for free. And if he's a pending UFA, the return is going to be significantly less. Interesting proposal for THIS deadline though... Trouba for Dougie Hamilton (3-yrs) and "Mr Game 7" Justin Williams (UFA)...
And Myers: he won't be traded at the deadline, and he'll be offered a team-friendly deal. 4-4.5M for 2-3 years. I think he'll walk for somewhere to play (and get paid as) Top 4. He'd still be able to get 5.5M from someone looking to spend and weak in the back end. Vancouver comes to mind if Edler is moved next month. Arizona is another.
Most likely pickup for the Jets this deadline: Dzingel. Lots of focus on Duchene, Jets can't afford his next contract. Too pricey for a pure rental. Dzingel is quick, Dynamic, and cheap at the moment. Probably comes at the cost of a 2nd and a 3rd. Also, versatile. He's played top C when Duchene was out. He's been 4th line within the past 365 days. But he's the #2 C that the Jets are looking for. A silver medal for many teams, Chevy would be wise to pony up early in this race. Send hold their fate in their own hands though. Dzingel value goes up after Duchene is moved. Being forced to move Duchene too soon will limit return. So expect Dzingel moved the week before deadline with time to cash in on Duchene when there is no longer a fallback plan in Ottawa. |
