Who/Where are NYR getting this Grade A center? If your honest, w/ the exception of Tavares (Signing w/ a Stanley Cup Contender), almost of these players come from the draft and stay w/ the team that drafted them (i.e Crosby, McDavid, etc). Maybe they sign w/ another team well into their careers, which is when their play is already deteriorating.....AND....Seguin has a NMC, just like most of the players of his ilk.

Panarin/Stone/Karlsson all can be had this summer, and NYR is in NO position to trade for a guy and give away picks/prospects when these guys probably already know where they want to end up next season. Trade for young prospects, picks, and sign UFAs over the course of the next few seasons. Thats the only way NYR will become a perennial contender.

As they say on radio "long time listener first time caller". I know this will probably get shut down, but what would you guys think of a creative trade for Panarin? I'm not sure about what the rules are for sign and trades, but I wonder what would have to be added if we agreed to send them back Hayes. There is a value of having an asset available to resign. Don't forget they can sign for an extra year, plus you get the window of exclusive negotiation. Hayes seems like a guy that Torts possible could like, although fair counterpoint is we don't know if Hayes would want to resign with them.

I can just go by what his agent and him have said. And that is he is testing free agency. No reason to even take the risk of giving up anything now and him signing somewhere else when we can just take no risk in the summer

I get the logic but I am going to side with MDW here. Sign him for 7 years at FA if he is actually interested. That will be paying him through his prime and into his decline years (most likely) anyway. No need to go 8 here. If this was a similar impact player at 24-25 the conversation might be different.

For the record I want Hayes to stay and I will die on that hill.

Hopefully.
We are not a contender, trading for Panarin will not put us in a better position this season. Save the trade chips for something else and sign him as a FA for free.

I have no disagreement here. Outside of goaltender, center is the most important position on a team. I'd rather have too many centers than too few, especially with how Chytil has done well at wing. I could easily see a scenario where we have both Zib and Hayes and try to let Howden/Andersson develop as your 3/4. Nothing wrong with that. I just think if the team wants Panarin, I'd rather be guaranteed him then just have a shot at him.

If the Rangers had that true elite #1 Center they might pull off that Cup run in 2014, and possibly more before and beyond. Too bad Richards wasn't that guy and Nash couldn't buy a goal. If they still had some picks in the early 2000's and beyond maybe they would have that/those impact player(s). Poor draft decisions in the first round didn't help anything. Not going to rehash the specifics now.

They still had an impressive run but now we have to suffer through the consequences of them trying to win now back then.

Although we obviously would much rather have the cups, in terms of now onward, I'd much rather be in our position than in the Kings/Hawks position. Those teams will be bad for a really long time.

That is a great answer to a fair question, Dumbdee.
I can see that you are that kind of NYR fan that misses the days of just spending without thought of trying to build a team. Jumping at the flavor of the month, with no regard for what direction the team is headed long term. Exactly the strategy that brought us 0 Cups and a desperate need to hit the reset button and start over. Brilliant.
Just keep slamming anyone who has a different plan and calling them morons. That will make your stupidity seem rational.
You're such a waste of time.

Have a water wheel in the stream in the backyard. Sometimes the water gets too low and we take turns riding the bike.

That's exactly why we got away from that model. So 1990's.
