from Larry Brooks column today:

Signing Marian Gaborik to his five-year, $37.5 million contract on July 1, 2009 represents the greatest free-agency move in Blueshirts’ history. Not only did The Great Gabby record two 40-plus goal seasons in his four years in New York, but his subsequent 2013 deadline trade to Columbus netted Derek Brassard, whose trade to Ottawa after three years of commendable service yielded Mika Zibanejad and the second-rounder the Rangers used to move up to select K’Andre Miller last June.

I agree with the whole paragraph, but that 2nd round pick thing is absolutely incorrect. They traded that pick for Brendan Smith.

Larry getting senile?

Read this and explain it to me, because it looks like that Boo will be under and not over the 80-game mark:

The Rangers called up Boo Nieves one game too late. With 80 games the cutoff for unrestricted Group 6 free agency, Nieves has played a career total of 45, with 34 games remaining.

Thus, the Blueshirts need to either extend the center’s contract, move him by the deadline, or take the chance on allowing the Michigan product to go scot-free.

basically they actually needed to play him in 80 NHL games to keep him from being a group 6 UFA and there is no way to do it now, the most he will play by end of season is 79 if he plays all the games

I dont know what they could have done though, he got hurt

They should try to void Koskinen's contract citing an insanity defense.

That's what I ultimately got out of it but Larry lays it out weird. I guess just sign him? Or let him walk. He's replaceable but also a nice bottom 6 player.

I know but it's true. Him leaving or staying has little bearing on where the organization is heading. I'd prefer they keep him with how he's looked but I wouldn't even remember him a few months from now if he was gone.

So many bottom 6 players on this team that are replaceable. What are we going to get for Boo? 3rd? 4th? And what team thinks he's going to be the piece? Just keep him.

I believe these are all the offers proposed to date, let me know if I missed any and will decide which ones - if any - can be posted for voting:

Picklerick:
To WPG: Kevin Hayes, Adam Mcquaid

To NYR: Jacob Trouba

Rationale: Obvious enough for the Rangers. A young talented RHD is an absolute necessity

For WPG, They lack depth down the middle and Mcquaid is on an expiring contract, which won't interfere with the cap hell that is coming this offseason (i imagine Hayes and Trouba will end up with roughly the same cap hit on their next contracts". Mcquaid is a a decent enough 4-6 D-man on a championship caliber team. Bfyuglien will be back at some point to fill out the D corp.

Tomburton99:
To Montreal: Kevin Hayes

To NYR: Ryan Poehling and lotto protected 2019 1st round pick. (Should the Habs miss the playoffs and they keep it, Rangers get their 2020 1st round pick.)

Lonnybohonos:
Trade is like the Ladd deal, so:
To Boston: Kevin Hayes
To Rangers: A first rounder and Trent Frederic, drafted 29th in 2016. Then a conditional 2nd if they get past Tampa.

Glak18:
NYR
Kevin Hayes

MON
Charlie Hudon
Michael McCarron
2019 2nd (Columbus)

FLFlames34:
To CAL: Hayes
To NYR: Neal, Kylington and NYI 4th (1mm retained)

To CAL: Hayes
To NYR: Frolik and a 3rd

Slimtj100:
Hayes and Skjei for Makar and the later first they have

Figuring Hayes isn’t enough to get Makar, thus I include Skjei

Cloud:
To the Island for a 1st and prospect Keiffer Bellows.

Islanders gets depth in their top6 for a playoff push. Have cap space to resign.

Rangers gets a first to fill their cupboards and a young power forward who they can develop with patience

Eichief9:
To WPG: Hayes and a 2019 2nd (the later of the two, if Tampa doesn't win the Cup and it stays a 2nd rounder)

To NYR: WPG 1st and Sami Niku

I think a 1st and Niku is too much for Hayes alone, hence the 2nd round pick coming from the Rangers to help even it out a bit

I could see WPG believing they are close enough to having a Cup-caliber team that they could stomach parting with Niku, along with their first, and the Rangers would be getting a late first and an NHL-ready 22yo defenseman who will be under team control for a long time

TommyGTrain:
To Calgary Flames: Kevin Hayes

To Rangers: RHD Rasmus Andersson
2020 2nd Round Pick upgrades to 2019 1st if Hayes signs

Calgary has assembled a very good team this year. However, Hayes would be a great fit for them as a 2nd line center. Hayes is good friends with Johnny Gaudreau so there is a chance he could re-sign with them. Calgary is deep in defense prospects but they don't own a 2019 2nd round pick.

Rangers getting Andersson would instantly upgrade their right side defense and allow them to explore trades for Shattenkirk

NFabz8:
To COL: Hayes, Fast, 2020 4th
To NYR: 2019 1st(COL), Jost.

Jimbro83:
Kevin Hayes to the Vegas Golden Knights for Vegas 1st rounder, Nashville's 3rd rounder, Montreal's 5th rounder and prospect Dylan Coghlan.

Vegas needs another strong forward to compete with the likes of the Jets, Flames, Sharks in the West and also wants to keep one of those teams from getting Hayes.

Hayes can play wing if needed and is a much better option in the lineup than Bellemare and/or Lindberg, and he'll fit like a glove in Vegas.

Rangers want picks picks picks picks picks.

And they'll also still talk to Hayes July 1st.

John Gilmour for Ryan Callahan, Tampa gives us both their first and second rounders this year (completing the other trade in the process) and another 2nd rounder next year

more realistic, I understand everyone will want the Tampa first in 2020

nyrangers9479:
Kevin Hayes to DAL

Roope Hintz and Ty Dellandrea to NYR

Outside the normal COL/CGY ideas DAL needs help up front. They only have 3 players with double digit goals (Benn/Seguin/Radulov) and then there’s a huge drop off. Hayes can step into the 2C role and balance out the scoring a bit helping DAL reach the playoffs.

Dellandrea is a right handed shot center that adds to the depth at center and Hintz is a big foward at 6’3 215 that can help with our lack thereof depth on the wing. Hintz should be NHL ready by camp next year and since being sent down has 19 points in 18 games.

Nice effort Jan, but Rutherford will trump our Hayes to col. deal with Brassard
to col instead
Col has nice assets in picks & prospect talent + sum NHL talent
not many teams have the pkgs Sakic can offer to make the P O's
Knows he wont with out upgrading ...NOW

Oilers sound like they will get aggressive NOW so as NOT to lose the season

Ek outlines a lot o f scenarios but what it shows is Edm. is ready to identify there
needs & wants & make it happen

They will be a lightening rod in the trade forum of NHL

want Gorts & NYR to be aggressive : getting guys off the team to see the
Libor Hijaks,Lingren Pionk SHey AdA play sum D Staal as senior man

time for the rest to get found for stretch runs :

My proposed deal is Hayes to Colorado for Compher and a 1 or Timmons and a 2.

Would love Makar, but don't see Colorado moving him unless very desperate, making Timmons ore likely, though his injury history is concerning. Compher would give the Rangers another building block at wing, though the Avalanche will fight hard not to deal him.
