Taking Callahan off their hands solves the 1st year. Yzerman may not care about year 2. It creates a problem for Tampa for sure which is an added benefit for NY and everyone else - Maskdman3
dude, Yzerman resigned, isn't there anymore
Kucherov goes from 4.4 mil this year to 9.5 mil next year
Yanni Gourde goes from 1 mil this year to 5.1 mil next year
they have to sign Brayden Point
no way yo

Plus they also need to find 3 more defensemen. Even if they trade Callahan. That gives them 15 million to fill out 6 or 7 roster spots. Point would get at least 1/3 of that money. |

no doubt they'll promote Cal Foote next year
but yeah, they are in deep cap hell
they need to acquire players making 850K, not 6.5 mil
but, they dont have to worry about it until after the season |

I never wanna see Callahan except at the OLE TIMERS GM someday ... - Dundee13
I don't either but it's the only way they can afford to take Shattenkirk too. Toronto is already in salary cap hell and if it means handing Tampa a cup this year in order to put them in cap hell too while wiping out their draft capital in the process I'm all for it. |

basically Tampa already has to get rid of Callahan just to afford the raise they have given Gourde
they aren't in a position to get rid of Callahan to take on another salary
they have already done it |

Is buying him out a possibility? Or is the hit still too high? |

Buyout isn't terrible. - tomburton99
That first year might make things tricky with them being capped out. |

Oh I'd take Callahan back, but I want the 2020 1st round pick coming back with him. (Granted on Callahan accepting to waive his NMC.) |

John Gilmour for Ryan Callahan, Tampa gives us both their first and second rounders this year (completing the other trade in the process) and another 2nd rounder next year
more realistic, I understand everyone will want the Tampa first in 2020 |

Yeah that is probably fair. I selfishly just want at chance at Lafreniere and Byfield. |

there really is no reason for Tampa to do a deal like this now though, Callahan could still help their playoff run, that's an after the season trade proposal |

Can report that the Koskinen deal was negotiated between Chiarelli and the agent, Markus Lehto. No one else from Oilers end. |

I think every NHL GM just sighed in collective disappointment hearing that Chiarelli is out and crossed the top trade off their list. |
